It was a rough week for us in the Darts Premier League last week with some brutally close losses. Jelle Klaasen, Gary Anderson and James Wade all had their chances to lock away a good result for us but somehow faltered. Anderson hitting his 8th maximum with 183 remaining in the last leg to destroy our under 7.5 bet was just ridiculous. I don’t have to explain that going for a 180 to leave yourself 3 is unheard of, but Ando just wanted to bend us over obviously. And of course, Chizzy decided to turn up to play which also hurt.
While the results didn’t go our way, it could have very easily gone the other way, so we have to remain confident in our reads and the luck will hopefully turn around.
MVG returns this week so it will be interesting to see if his back injury and the time off affects his game, while Gary Anderson and Peter Wright will be looking to light it up in front of their home crowd in Glasgow, Scotland. Read on for our Darts Premier League Week 6 Preview!
Premier League Darts Week 6 Betting Tips
Adrian Lewis vs Phil Taylor
The Stoke Derby to kick things off with Adrian Lewis clashing with Phil Taylor. Lewis has been on the improve recently but he was blown away by the rampaging Peter Wright last week in a 7-2 defeat. It looks worse than it was as Lewis averaged an excellent 109 with 5 maximums in an impressive performance. Wright just never gave him a chance in one of the great games of all time, so Lewis should remain confident that if he plays that well, he’ll beat most players in the league. And he’ll be desperate for some points this week as he sits nervously in 8th place, just ahead of the relegation zone. He comes up against “The Power” who is on top of the table with three wins and two draws in his five matches so far. Taylor has been pretty fortunate to escape with draws in each of the last two weeks against Kim Huybrechts and Gary Anderson, but he’s a tough one to beat. Taylor uses his experience to hang in there and pressure his opponent until the last dart is thrown. I think Lewis is a chance in this match and I fully expect it to go right down to the wire. I prefer to play the 180s markets with these two. Lewis did have five 180s last week, but before that he had just seven in four matches. Taylor didn’t register a single 180 last week and has just six in five matches. I think a play on the under 6.5 line is a solid bet.
TIP: Lewis vs Taylor under 6.5 180s - $1.80 at Sportsbet
James Wade vs Peter Wright
I’m really looking forward to this match with James Wade looking to bounce back from his first loss of the season against the in-form Peter Wright. Wade would be very disappointed with his loss last week to Dave Chisnall as he gave up the chance to claim the top of leaderboard. Instead, he’s now back in the pack and facing a super tough opponent. Wade averaged just 89 last week to drop his season average to 94.24 which is the worst in the league. Normally you would say his checkouts help overcome poor scoring but his checkout percentage of 34.07% is the second worst in the league. They are not favourable stats for “The Machine” and he’ll have to lift if he’s to challenge Peter Wright. No one in the world is playing better at the moment than “Snake Bite”. Coming off an incredible Premier League performance last week where he threw the second highest average of all time of 119.50, Wright followed that up over the weekend by winning the UK Open for his first major darts championship. It will be hard to back up after that high, but surely his confidence is at an all-time high and if he continues that form, he won’t be beat. We’ll add some extra value to the bet and combine with Wright to have the most 180s.
TIP: Peter Wright to win + Most 180s - $2.10 at Sportsbet (BEST BET)
Kim Huybrechts vs Michael van Gerwen
Kim Huybrechts is still searching for his first win of the season, but he is off the bottom of the table, thanks to his three draws in five matches. However he has a tough draw ahead and it doesn’t get any tougher than world number one Michael van Gerwen. Fortunately for Huybrechts, MVG is returning following a back injury that saw him miss last week’s Premier League and UK Open tournament. There’s a chance he might be a little slow to start as he finds his groove, and we’re not even sure if his back may still be troubling him. That’s about the only hope for Huybrechts in this one. There’s no value in these markets and too much unknown with MVG's form/injury so no bet here.
TIP: No Bet
Jelle Klaasen vs Raymond van Barneveld
A battle of two Dutchman who both would be disappointed with their Premier League season so far. Klaasen played poorly last week in a match he would’ve hoped to win against Kim Huybrechts. Klaasen was sloppy, with his average of 87.57 and one maximum well below his usual output. Barney was also pretty poor as he was steamrolled 7-2 by Dave Chisnall, but he had a solid showing at the UK Open, bowing out in a classic quarter-final against Peter Wright where Barney averaged 108. Barney will need to find some motivation here to come out with a little more fire in the belly. A win and he’s back in Playoff contention, while a loss puts him in danger of the relegation zone. It’s a huge match for both players. I would tip Barney to win but I don’t feel comfortable diving into red odds when Klaasen could easily turn up to play. I think a better bet is to take Barney to win the 180s market. He’s been hitting the maximums pretty regularly this season with 21 (second most in the league) against Klaasen’s 13, and we’re getting a decent price.
TIP: Raymond van Barneveld most 180s - $2.12 at CrownBet
Dave Chisnall vs Gary Anderson
What a night it was last week for Dave Chisnall! Here we were thinking that he would lose both matches and be in deep danger of relegation. Instead, he won both and is now on the verge of the top four. Only one other player has three wins this season (Peter Wright) so Chizzy is certainly right in the hunt now. Chizzy hit his straps last week, not only with scoring but with finishing which has often been his downfall. However he comes up against Gary Anderson who is probably a little grumpy about his Premier League season. Anderson has just one win and three draws from his first five matches, despite having a season average of over 103 and easily the best checkout percentage in the league. He let slip an opportunity last week to defeat Phil Taylor and he needs to recapture that killer instinct to put away his opponents. This week offers a great opportunity for Ando to get back on track. I expect a high scoring match between two guys who like to smash the 180s, so happy to play the overs on a line of 7.5 180s.
TIP: Dave Chisnall vs Gary Anderson over 7.5 180s - $1.80 at Bet365
Multi: Lewis/Taylor u8.5 180s + Wright win + MVG win + Anderson win - $3.80 at CrownBet
