Sandown’s Hillside venue will host midweek racing in Victoria on Wednesday with a handy nine-race program on offer. There is a little rain about and the track should remain a Good 4. Race 1 starts at 2:30pm (AEDT) and our three best bets of the day are below, with one of those plays in the first of the day which is a maiden handicap over 1400m.

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, March 20th 2024
Race 1: Sportsbet jockey Watch Plate - 2:30pm (AEDT)
(5) The Shaper is in good hands with the Freedman boys having a good start to 2024. He almost got there late at big odds last start at this track and the extra 100m here seems ideal. He had a lot of jumpouts prior to being runner-up so fitness shouldn’t be an issue. He is likely to settle midfield here and should be able to round them up over the final 100m. Lane stays on and the even money on offer looks fair enough.
(7) Judge Jenni goes up 200m and did enough when favourite last start at Ballarat when 4th. Bates stays on but he has drawn wide again (8) after drawing 11 at Ballarat. Needs luck.
(8) Thunder Hawk is resuming and gets the services of in-form Shinn here. Before her break she was beaten a neck at Kilmore and that was on a Dry track so another Good track is preferred.

Race 4: Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(5) Samuel Lonhorne has drawn inside here after he almost got the cash at this track on March 6. He came from off the pace that day and he ran out the journey (2400m) well which he gets again here. He should be stronger for that and Kent stable has put the blinkers on which may assist. He has gone up 4kg in weight but he has carried 60kg before and he ran a good 5th in a harder race.
(11) Upwoods has drawn nicely in 3 and Lane rides again after scoring well at Packenham last start. He settled 4th from barrier 1 that day and from the nice barrier here, he should be able to settle in a similar position. Before that over the longer journey of 2600m, he was beaten a nose. Go close in this.
(12) Think I’m Famous usually gets back so the wide barrier in 12 might be okay. If the pace is on, then this is the one to watch late. Goes well on the Dry.

Race 6: Evergreen Turf Handicap - 5:25pm (AEDT)
(6) Miss Passion for the Moody & Coleman team looked good when 3rd at this track on February 28. She was only beaten half a length after really running home well for Price. She gets a leading jockey on here (Lane) which is probably worth an extra length or two and I’m hoping that’s enough to get her over the line. She has never missed a placing on Dry track and she will likely settle around midfield in this. Lane has won on here before and he will know when to go over the distance which she enjoys the most.
(4) Donegal has drawn wide in 10 and a Dry track isn’t ideal. If there is a downgrade then he comes into calculations for the win but the Hayes Boys are in form and he must be kept safe.
(10) Subliminal is pretty consistent and she won for McDougall last time at Kyneton. She is currently double figures despite dropping in weight. She is up in class though and will need a good steer.
