Saturday at Randwick and what a phenomenal meeting we’ve got to look forward to. Weather forecast is perfect for racing and track conditions should be prime giving every horse an equal chance on a day of fair racing from start to finish. There are a host of exciting horses engaged in this meeting some of which I’ve identified as great winning chances.
Blake Lalor brings you his analysis and racing tips for the day!
Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday 17th December
Race 3
I’d like to see (7) Espirito land somewhere near the lead from the good gate this time. He’s a capable horse and has great ability but hasn’t been able to demonstrate it from a string of wide draws lately. I’m hopeful that changes with a better draw this time.
(14) Mr Rock It Is also drawn well in gate 2 and should get a very soft run. He’s been running well since winning his maiden 3 back and went close to beating Astero in a bm72 last time. As a 3yo he’s right down in the weights and is a sneaky chance.
(5) With Your Blessing should be running well in this race. He’s too short not to try to bet around in the market but deserves to be the favourite, nonetheless. With a good steer from James Mcdonald this horse does look like the one to beat, just on the short side for me.
(7) Espirito Each-Way
$17/$6.40 (0.5 Units)
Race 5
Provided (6) Alpha One returns near his best, he wins this race. He was poor to end last preparation with no excuses but won a trial comfortably since then beating 2nd favourite Vowmaster. He’ll lead and should do so comfortably making him very hard to run down.
(11) Vowmaster presents as the main danger in the race with James McDonald aboard from a good gate. As mentioned, the horse trialled 2nd behind Alpha One and although he’s not been seen since April 2021, he’s sure to be ready for the races under Chris Waller and may have taken some improvement and maturity out of all the time spent in the paddock.
(2) Invincible Kiss is consistently disregarded by the market every time she races. She ran 3rd to I Am Me last time at a similar price to this from a much less desirable barrier than the one she’s drawn this time. How she’s this price I have no idea and it would not surprise me if she snuck into the placings or even got her nose down on the line if Alpha One doesn’t show up.
(6) Alpha One Win
$2.45 (2 Units)
Race 9
(5) I Am Me Jogged it to win in this class last time so no reason he can’t go on to win again. Up in weight but deservedly so and gets Jmac aboard from gate 1. What could go wrong?
(6) On The Lead ran 2nd to this horse last time and can do the same again. He’s drawn better and gets a nice pull in the weights so might even be able to make it closer than it was previously.
(13) Easifar is yet to miss the placings 1st up and is drawn to run well here in gate 2. Can be difficult to catch but if she turns up, she could have an impact on this race.
(5) I Am Me Win
$2.15 (3 Units)
Race 10
It’s impossible to bet against (6) Frumos but it’s becoming costly to bet on her as well. She needs luck plain and simple but is overdue for some and should be in less of a tricky position from gate 6 this time compared to gate 1 last time. She’s turning out to be a horse that is better off drawn wider because she’s far superior than her opposition but just needs clear air to show it. Should get that this time.
(1) Nothinsweetaboutme will need further in time but is the likely leader of this race and has trialled nicely enough over sprint trips to suggest she can prove tough to run down for Frumos here. I’ll be hoping she sets a solid tempo for Frumos to launch off but if she gets left alone in front beware.
(3) Sweet Ruby is the horse drawn well that should get the run of the race on my speed map. If she’s not held up and gets clear running at the right time in the straight she may be able to get into the finish. There are better horses in the race but none that will receive a better run.
(6) Frumos Win
$2.20 (5 Units)
