Pakenham Cup night has arrived with the feature marked for the penultimate event as part of the nine-race card, the first of which kicking off at 5:45pm (AEDT) before the evening rounds out with the last at 9:45pm. The unpredictable Melbourne weather could throw a curveball in the lead-up but expect the program to be run on a Good 4 throughout.
As it stands the running of the Pakenham meeting will act as an encore for what is set to be a super Saturday of Racing with the All-Star Mile taking centre stage at Caulfield and likewise with the Coolmore Classic further north up at Rosehill.
Find our best bets for the program below and good luck if following!
Pakenham Racing Tips: Friday, March 15th 2024
Race 2: R J Sanderson & Associates (6:15pm AEDT)
(4) Grinzinger Angel had excuses last start with health issues to blame at Geelong. The stable is confident here having passed her fit to run, can hit back hard over the 1000m as the class filly in this 10-horse field.
(6) Takashima wasted no time in breaking her maiden status with a comfortable 2.3L win at Swan Hill on debut last Spring. Has trialled well for this saluting in a Flemington jump-out, all roads point to a strong showing.
(3) Clock Strikes rounds out my selections as the third hope in a competitive race. Second up form is sound and can look to build on that here as Gelding that likes to make his own like out in front.
(4) Grinzinger Angel
$2.45 (2 Units)
Race 6: Fulmen Park (8:15pm AEDT)
(4) Lightning Flash drops in grade after finishing just outside the placegetters last start at Moonee Valley, must contend with the added weight but it looks to be a minor deterrent in a winnable race on paper.
(7) Amarysso worked home well late in the piece over this track and distance to chalk up its first career win for the Hayes camp. They’ll be hoping to repeat the dose here and are well placed to do so at a healthy price in an even affair.
(1) Miss Santorini will be asked to lug the big weight around the Pakenham circuit this time but is drawn to receive every chance from the inside alley and can save up her petrol tickets for one quick dash down the straight.
(4) Lightning Flash
$5 (1 Unit)
Race 8: Sportsbet Pakenham Cup (9:15pm AEDT)
(1) Dunkel continues to impress here on Australian Soil over the distance races. The 4yo wears favouritism honours here and can justify the short quote on offer with the Payne trained Gelding set to prove hard to beat.
(3) Ashrun maps well from the low draw and with Melbourne Cup form lines around her the signs are encouraging to suggest she can run a race on the second line of betting. Happy enough with her to think about exotic plays.
(14) Think ‘N’ Fly sets up as a value selection that can slot into minor money with the accomplished Linda Meech onboard. Connections will be full of anticipation after a convincing Moonee Valley run where she relished the step up in trip.
(1) Dunkel
$2.90 (2 Units)
