NFL 2018-19: Week 6 Preview & Betting Tips

October 10th 2018, 1:27pm, By: andyrosos

Decent week for us in NFL betting tips last weekend as we hit on 3/4 bets! We’ll look to go one better and hit the perfect week for the first time this season as we take a look at some of the key games of the Week 6 of the NFL which gets underway Friday morning (AEDT) with the Philadelphia Eagles travelling to New York to take on the Giants.

NFL Week 6 Betting Tips

Philadelphia Eagles at New York Giants (Friday 11.20am AEDT)

Both the Eagles and the Giants suffered two point losses in Week 5 and will both take losing records into their game on Friday morning. After winning the Super Bowl earlier in the year, the Eagles have had a lacklustre start to the 2018-19 season, wining just two of their opening five games and dealing with injuries to some key players. A tough two point loss to the Vikings in Week 5 was made worse by first choice running back Jay Ajayi going down with a season ending ACL injury.

The Giants currently sit on the bottom of the NL East division standings with a 1-4 record but can draw level with the Eagles with a win on Friday morning. The Giants offence seemed to click for the first time this season in Week 5 as they put up 31 points against the Panthers and the dynamic skill position duo of Odell Beckham Jr and Saquon Barkley fired. It was the first time this season that the Giants have scored over 30 points, but they probably wont have to put up that many on Friday morning to stay competitive.

The Eagles defence has looked okay so far this season and they have been particularly good against the run, their offence however, has been very questionable. They have scored in between 18 and 23 points in all five games they have played this season and haven’t looked like putting up a big enough score to cover some of their lofty post Super Bowl lines to open the season. The Eagles are just 1-4 against the spread and we think they’ll struggle to cover away from home on Friday morning.

Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos (Monday 7.05am AEDT)

The Rams will look to continue their perfect season on Monday morning as they face off against the Broncos from 7.05am. Their offence has looked unstoppable in 2018 so far, racking up at least 33 points in all five of their games. Apart from a complete shut out against the Cardinals in Week 2, they have allowed a lot of points though, the last three weeks in particular yielding scores against of 23, 31 and 31. It took a last quarter comeback to beat the Seahawks in Week 5 so we think the Rams are definitely susceptible to a decent defence and a strong home crowd.

That’s exactly what they’ll get this Monday morning as they travel to Denver who, apart from allowing 34 points to the Jets in New York last weekend, have been a pretty underrated defence so far this season. The Broncos started the season with two strong home wins against Seattle and Oakland and were leading the majority of the game in their third home contest against the Chiefs before letting slip.

The Broncos running backs in particular were fantastic that game, with Phillip Lindsay and Royce Freeman both rushing for over 60 yards and a touchdown. The Rams defence looked susceptible against the run last weekend, giving up 190 rushing yards to the Seahawks. I expect the Broncos to put up 20+ here and the Rams to once again be in the 30s. I like the overs.

Kansas City Chiefs at New England Patriots (Monday 11.20am AEDT)

The game of the round sees the 3-2 Patriots hosting the undefeated Chiefs at Gillette Stadium on Monday morning. The Patriots bounced back after two losses in weeks two and three to win their last two games comfortably over the Dolphins and the Colts. They’ll face their biggest test of the season this Monday against the undefeated Chiefs, who have scored at least 27 points in all five of their games so far.

It was just last season that Kansas City inflicted one of the worst losses of the Brady-Belichick era on the Patriots, a 42-27 points drubbing that made pundits everywhere question the validity of the Patriots title defence. Just a few years earlier, the Chiefs were massive winners at home against the Patriots, scoring 41 points on that night to once again put doubt in the Patriots fans minds. The Pats went on to win the Super Bowl in 2014 and lost in the final game of the season against Philadelphia earlier this year, so in the eyes of a Pats fan, a loss might not be the worst thing here.

However, it looks as though it could be a tighter race than normal in the AFC East this year with Miami, Buffalo and New York all currently breathing down the Patriots necks. They cant afford to lose home games like this and we expect them to inflict the Chiefs first loss of the season on Monday morning.

New England -3.5

Sam Francisco 49ers at Green Bay Packers (Tuesday 11.15am AEDT)

It’ll be a tough road fort eh 49ers in 2018-19 from here. They lost their starting quarterback to a season ending ACL injury a few weeks ago and subsequently allowed the Arizona Cardinals their first win of the season on the weekend. They were thoroughly outplayed by the Cardinals, going down by 10 points and will have a much tougher test against the Packers this weekend.

The Packers weren’t great in their divisional matchup against the Lions on the weekend, going down 31-23 away from home but will look to bounce back at Lambeau Field after an extended break. The Packers currently sit one game behind the Bear in the NFC North but the Bears have a game in hand. Aaron Rodgers till doesn’t look at 100% healthy, but is playing nonetheless and racked up 442 yards and three touchdown passes in their loss to the Lions on the weekend.

A winning just one of their last four games, a home game against the struggling 49ers will be just what the doctor ordered for Green Bay here. If they have any aspirations of staying in contact with the Bears they cant afford to drop home games and with the 49ers still scrambling to get backup QB Cam Beathard up to speed, we think the Packers win comfortably here.

Green Bay -9.5
