The 132-player field consists of only a few top players. This course is known as a shot makers track, with narrow fairways and very small greens. It has also had a recent renovation and now boasts the new TifEagle Bermuda grass greens. Holes 2,5,16 and 17 have been tweaked from last year and the course will actually play 2 yards shorter than previous years at 7099 yards.
Last year the average distance of all drives was just 264.3 yards - the shortest on tour. This is why players such as last year’s eventual winner Jim Furyk can have success here. Furyk is not very long off the tee, but is certainly a player that can "chess" it around. Two key stats to watch are driving accuracy and greens in regulation. Also course experience has proven very important in past years.
There will be many top golfers taking a week off after the Masters and if it wasn’t for "Team RBC" (which consists of Jason Day, Brandt Snedeker and Matt Kuchar to name a few) then the field would be very weak. The fact that Jason Day is forced to play this tournament makes it hard for me to even consider him... especially at $7.00. We will look for value elsewhere.
Scott Brown
The local boy should feel very comfortable here this week. He has four recent top 10’s and finished T4 here in 2014. Two weeks ago he opened with a 65 at the Shell Houston Open. He can make a bunch of birdies (190 this season, ranked 7th), he just needs to keep bogeys and doubles off the card.

Russell Knox
This guy ticks all the boxes in driving accuracy and greens in regulation. Ranks 2nd on tour in GIR at 73.17% and 22nd in driving accuracy at 68%.

Matthew Fitzpatrick
Finished 7th at the Masters and actually led the field in greens in regulation. Has course knowledge and also ticks the key stats boxes. T10 in GIR at 70.24% and hits the fairway with driver 68.52% of the time.
