Match Preview
The Raiders opened their season with a commanding 30-8 victory over the Warriors. A rejuvenated outfit with plenty of speed in key positions, the Raiders look superior to their opponents in every area. The fact that they still won in this fashion with a 69% completion rate highlights just how they took their chances. In equal measure, it may also indicate that they have several areas to improve upon.
The Broncos had no such issues in their 50-14 win over the Roosters on the road. Conceding a try early, the Broncos didn’t panic and once they gained control, they dominated the match. It was always going to be this way with 59% possession and an 84% completion rate. Better still, they made 10 line breaks. The hype has quickly grown for this team and the next challenge appears to be staying grounded. This game offers the ideal opportunity to prove that they are.
It is surprising to see the Broncos so short in this fixture; they still had numerous points last week whereby they made mistakes, but they were not punished for them. It will be a different story this week against a more capable team. It remains to be seen whether the trip back from Vegas will have an impact on the Raiders. Playing at home should help; they have won 3 out of their past 4 games against the Broncos here and have a superior overall record (58% vs 41%).
While 2 of the past 5 matches between these two sides extends the average winning margin to 13.8 points (24- & 22-point victories), the other 3 have been decided by 12 points or less. The same looks set to occur here. As good as the Broncos were in Round 1, more is needed from them. While the same can be said about the Raiders, it would be surprising to see a blowout scoreline for this team in their first game at home for the season.

Leg 1: Under 49.5 points – the average margin between these two sides in the past 5 meetings is 44.2 points and only once has it been above this level.
Leg 2: Cobbo to score a try – he has score 4 tries in the past two games against the Raiders and will again be a threat with the ball in hand. You only must look at his performance last week to notice his offseason improvement.
Leg 3: Broncos to win – it is a simple option to boost the SGM, but it is the preferred selection. They are the stronger team on paper and should prevail in this contest.
