Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Friday, January 31st 2025
Race 1: Ladbrokes Form Genius Plate - 6:15pm AEDT
*SCRATCHED* (8) Pula gets the nod here after drawing inside over 1200m in the maiden race. For Blake Shinn at Geelong last start, she led from a wide barrier (3rd) and I think it will be easier for her to hunt up and get to the front in this one. If she doesn’t get there, I think settling behind the leader on the rails will be okay too. Having her second start here and would have gained knowledge from her first outing.
(2) Bazball Rewarded has drawn next to Pula and might position up in 4th position in this. If Pula gets pressured, Baseball Rewarded might get over the top of them.
(1) Regal Surge is on debut for the Maher stable and will be well supported given that fact. John Allen is on and he rode her for a 2nd in her jumpout last week at Stawell.
Race 3: Evergreen Turf Plate - 7:15pm AEDT
(8) Saltburn has run two seconds in both career starts and last time at Mornington on January 19 he only went down by a nose at Mornington. He was midifeld on that occasion and ran on well but on debut he led at Echuca, so from barrier 1 I think he will be more forward this time and may even take up the running. Jake Noonan has ridden in both starts and this might be the target race before he ends his first prep.
(2) Dare To is on debut for the Maher team and is currently rated $8.50. If that price shortens up on raceday, then he might be worth a play. The blinkers go on.
(7) Mcadam was beaten a nose two starts back at Cranbourne and backed that effort up with a solid 3rd after leading at Mornington. Fit now an is an each-way chance.
(8) Saltburn
$3.50 (2 units)
Race 7: Broadside Lawyers Handicap - 9:15pm AEDT
(1) Hustle In Heels was unlucky when 5th at Mornington last start and it might pay to forgive that run after she was backed into $2.50 favourite. Before that it was an easy win at Caulfield Heath when she took control with 100m to go. The tongue tie goes on and from barrier 4 she should be able to settle in the top 3 again and she should be right in the finish. She has already won over this distance, Mott stays on and I expect her to start favourite again.
(5) McKeyla will go back from barrier 10 like she did at Flemington last start when 3rd. SHe ran on very well but this straight is a lot shorter and she might run out of time.
(4) Light Foot came from off to speed to win at Albury on debut and the Widdup stable wouldn’t send her here if they didn’t think she was up to it. Is first up after a 6 month spell.
(1) Hustle In Heels
$2.50 (2 units)
