Flemington will host a big 10 race program on Saturday with Good tracks continuing to be the norm around the state. The weather is fine with 29 degrees and race one comes up at 12:15pm (AEDT). The first is a good race too with all horses looking to be genuine winning chances. Brendan Bunworth’s three best plays of the day are below!
Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, January 18th 2025
Race 3: Howden Australia Guineas Day, 1 March - 1:20pm (AEDT)
(1) Centennial Park will likely roll forward again in this race after doing so and saluting on a Good track at Caulfield Heath last start. He has had a small freshen up and remains at the 1600m for the McEvoy Team and Jamie Mott stays on after winning on top on Boxing Day. He will likely be a couple of pairs in front of his nearest rival in betting (Tomba) and if the pace is steady, he should be able to kick away late.
(3) Tomba gets Blake Shinn on for the first time and which will help even more after he won easily at Kembla Grange last start. He usually sits midfield in his races and will be running on after the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald Team decided to send him over for a look interstate for the first time.
(4) Seindeel is very fit now and will settle midfield again here I reckon. At this track last time he ran on well for 2nd and the extra 200m suits.
(1) Centennial Park Each-Way
$3.50/$1.45 (1U/2U)
Race 4: Black Caviar Lightning Race Day, 15 February - 1:55pm (AEDT)
(5) Samangu is 3 from 3 on Good tracks which she gets again and the in-form Craig Williams is back after a short break. She will likely go forward in this race like she did at Pakenham last start where she won by a nose. She has already won over 1100m but has never been up the Flemington straight in race conditions which is the only query.
(7) Dazzling Lucy I have backed a few times on this site but she has never won for us but always runs a good race at odds. The blinkers go on and she did win a Mornington Jumpout at latest run which might give her confidence.
(1) Luna Cat rises in weight but likes Dry ground. She seems to like Flemington and she is fitter now after her Geelong placing on January 4.
(5) Samangu WIN
$2.50 (3 Units)
Race 9: Flemington Racing Spectacular - 1-29 March - 4:55pm (AEDT)
(7) Brazen Lady goes very well on Good tracks and is ready to win again after running on well at Geelong in The Black Pearl (4th) two weeks ago. She likes the track, she likes this distance, and barrier 2 looks like a good get. Damien Lane is on top and he has finished in the top 3 on her 7 times from 9 starts. I reckon she may settle leaders back 3rd, or 5th the rails in the run. It’s a long straight so she should get out.
(6) Verdad was backed heavily to win in November at The Valley and Flemington but ran 2nd much to punters' frustrations. He is resuming here and goes best on Dry tracks.
(4) Umgawa was a good Place bet at Geelong last start at even money and will be making steady ground late again. Barrier 13 probably stops him winning though.
(7) Brazen Lady Each-Way
$6.00/$2.20 (1 Unit)
