Newcastle Racing Tips: Saturday, November 16th 2024
Race 7: New Zealand Bloodstock Spring Stakes 1600m - 4:05pm (AEDT)
(1) Althoff $4.00: 3YO colt who has been racing well behind some quality horses. Sees an easier affair this time round and gets a gun draw with Collett to steer. $5.50 into $4 early is good to see. Rock hard fit and looks the one to beat for me.
(2) Alabama State $3.50: Consistent runner who has been competing well in highways/midways and form continues to line up. Rock hard fit and can run another good race.
(3) The Three Hundred $4.00: Chasing the trifecta here and deserves to be a top pick. This 3YO looks suited over the mile now and maps well to get a great run. The value pick.
(1) Althoff
$4.00 (1.5 Units)
Race 7: The Newcastle Herald Hunter 1300m - 4:35pm (AEDT)
(1) Private Eye $6.50: This 7YO gelding gets a nice drop-in class and hasn’t been disgraced against other black types. Solid in the Everest last start from a wide run. Hard fit and is proven on the soft and over this trip. He is clearly the most talented horse in the race, but need some luck again from the wide draw.
(2) Coalcrusher $13.00/$3.20: 7YO mare who was brave in defeat 2 back behind OVERPASS and then went too hard in the Everest tiring out of the race. Draws wide here, but if he can jump well like usual and get to the front, he can dictate it to his liking and will be hard to catch. Roughie of the field.
(14) Briasa $2.70: 4YO gelding who has proven his talent with 5 wins from 6 runs and had excuses 2 back where he had minimal luck. Returned to the winners stall last start with an arrogant win. Clearly another top hope for this.
(1) Private Eye

Race 10: Ausure Insurance Newcastle BM94 1300m – 5:55pm (AEDT)
(2) Spangler $8.50/$2.80: Resuming 7YO who has had 3 trials leading into this and gets in very well at the weights with the 3kg claim engaged. Loves this track and looks over the odds. Draws a gate and will be around the mark with the 3kg claim. Happy to be on.
(7) Amur $15.00/$3.80: The roughie of the field who looks as though he will map best on paper and will only be improving third up. Needs to improve off his first two runs, but best is good enough and handles the soft track. Each way.
(9) Battleton $6.00: 6YO gelding who is marked favourite in the early market after a handy win last start. He drops right back to 1300m now which is unusual as he was poor 3 and 4 back over 1200m, but relished the rise in trip to 1400m and last start over 1500m. Hard fit though and is capable.
(2) Spangler E/W
$8.50/$2.80 (1 Unit)
