NBL25 Round 7 Preview & Betting Tips
Melbourne United vs New Zealand Breakers
Monday 7:30pm AEDT, John Cain Arena
Melbourne United are humming right now with three wins in a row which is the biggest current winning run in the competition. They took down the highly-fancied Kings in an entertaining battle on Thursday night which made it two in a row and three from their past four at John Cain Arena.
Jack White was phenomenal in the win over the Kings and has catapulted himself into genuine MVP conversations on the back of his recent play. He’s averaging 14 points and 11 rebounds per contest, as well as shooting the three at a fantastic 43.8%.
United’s starting lineup has been a bit of a revolving door this season and it’s anyone’s guess as to who the starters will be on Monday night. The good news is they have a clean bill of health with no recent news on the injury front.
The New Zealand Breakers have been the surprise packet so far in NBL25 and will enter Monday night’s game on top of the standings with a 5-2 record. They’re currently riding their second two-game win streak of the season thanks to recent victories against strong outfits in the Kings and the 36ers.
The Breakers win against the 36ers on Saturday night was their most dominant performance of the season. The 36ers were coming in hot, but the Breakers were quick to extinguish their momentum as they opened up a 14-point lead at the first break. Parker Jackson-Cartwright was fantastic once again with 25 points, and Freddie Gillespie had his best game in Breakers colours with 13 points, seven rebounds, and five blocks off the bench.
The Breakers still have a number of key players battling injuries that will likely miss Monday night’s game. The three M’s – Max Darling, Mitch McCarron, and Mojave King are all listed on the official NBL injury report.
Game Prediction: The Breakers have defied the odds on a number of occasions this season, but this is easily the toughest task they’ve faced so far. They’ve had to travel across the border with only one day’s rest after a very busy schedule, and now take on the best team in the competition on their home floor.
The Breakers have dished up a couple of poor performances after heavy travel schedules this season and with injuries also in play here, it’s tough to see how they can remain competitive across four quarters against this powerhouse United outfit. With that said, I like united at the line here.
United -7.5
