NBL25 Round 2 Preview & Betting Tips

Perth Wildcats vs Sydney Kings

Friday 9:30pm AEST, September 27th, RAC Arena

The Perth Wildcats did exactly as expected in Round 1 as they cruised past the Phoenix with a 106-98 win in front of their fans at RAC Arena. They opened up a 12-point lead at quarter time and were never really troubled as they led from wire-to-wire.

Bryce Cotton was doing Bryce Cotton things and finished the game with 26 points thanks to eight three-pointers, and Keanu Pinder also hit four threes en route to a game-high 29 points. In terms of their new recruits, Dylan Windler was given the most opportunity and finished with a 6/10/4 line, although he struggled with his shot.

Youngster Ben Henshall franked his preseason form with 10 points and seven boards but remains a game time decision ahead of Friday night due to illness.

Likewise, the Sydney Kings were strong favourites in their opening game of the season against the 36ers and didn’t disappoint as they too won by eight points (102-94). Their win wasn’t quite as comfortable as the Wildcats’ win as the 36ers fought hard and hit the lead a couple of times during the second half.

Former MVP Jaylen Adams came out of the blocks scorching and finished the game with a 25/6/7 stat line. Another former MVP, Xavier Cooks was in fine form as well with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Next Star Alex Toohey showed off his development and wasn’t shy from deep range (3-5 3PFG), and new recruit Keli Leaupepe has the biggest upper body I’ve ever seen on a basketballer. He was also handy as a starter.

Cam Oliver was strong in his club debut despite starting off the bench. He scored 19 points and showed off his improved stroke from deep (3-8 3PFG). He’ll likely enter the starting lineup in the coming games.

Game Prediction: The Kings certainly have the more stacked roster but that doesn’t always equal better performance. They have so many mouths to feed that it’s going to take some time for Brian Goorjian to work out his best rotations.

In contrast, the Wildcats are well organised and have great continuity after bringing back a very similar roster to last campaign. I expect them to come out on top at home in their first meeting with the Kings.
