Spoonbowl! Who would have thought a clash between the two worst teams in the NRL competition would be so highly anticipated, but that is what we have on Friday night. With the loser of this game guaranteed the Wooden Spoon, there is more than just pride on the line here between these two western Sydney franchises. Can the Tigers avoid their third straight wooden spoon, or will the Eels consign the Tigers to a record held by just four other teams (Magpies, Eels, Knights, and Seagulls). I am pumped for this game!

NRL Round 27 Preview & Betting Tips
Wests Tigers vs Parramatta Eels
Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Friday 6th September, 6:00pm (AEST)
The Tigers are coming off the bye, which arguably came at a horrible time for the team sitting dead last, having won two in a row heading into the bye. Prior to the bye, the Tigers were last seen beating the Rabbitohs at Campbelltown Sports Stadium 18-16. The Tigers almost lost the game, after leading 18-4 nearing the hour mark, collapsing badly in the last 20-odd minutes, conceding two tries, whilst the Rabbitohs had a third try disallowed on the siren to deny them the come-from-behind win. The Tigers will need to be far better this weekend, or I fear they are heading for their third straight spoon.
As for the Eels, they showed why they are locked into the bottom quarter of the ladder, almost throwing away a guaranteed victory over the Dragons last weekend. After leading 44-12 with just 10 minutes remaining, the Eels allowed five tries in just 10 minutes to allow the Dragons to get within striking distance, eventually winning 44-40. Whilst there were clearly positives, especially in attack, the Eels have shown all season that they are susceptible to falling asleep for 15 minutes in a match, and on most occasions, it costs them the two points. Need to play 80 this week, unless they can once again lead by 30+ with 10 minutes left, as I don’t believe the Tigers have 30 points in 10 minutes in them.
Match Preview
These two teams have a history of tight matches over the past few years, none more so than their round 4 clash this season at CommBank Stadium. In a tight battle where neither team dominated for long, Aidan Sezer managed a 79th minute field goal to break a 16-all deadlock and win the game. The Eels closed 10.5-point favourites for the clash, with the total set at 44.5. In fact, the past four games between these teams the Eels have closed has double digit favourites, and have failed to cover any of those games, with both teams winning two apiece.
As for this weekend, the Eels opened slight 3.5-point favourites, with money coming in on the Tigers, to where the Eels now sit as 2.5-point favourites. I make the Eels the smallest of favourites here and wouldn’t be surprised if this closes 1.5. I don’t see any real value in the spread here, with this matchup far too close to call.
As for the total, it opened 49.5 and has been bumped all the way up to 52.5. I fully agree with this and can see this game turning into an absolute shoot out here. The Tigers have been a solid unders team all season long, but surely both teams leave nothing in the tank here, and we see the best of both teams’ attack. Give me the over.
