2024 AFL Round 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Geelong vs West Coast
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, August 24th, GMHBA Stadium
Geelong looked well on their way to locking in a top four spot when they comfortably led the Saints during the halfway mark last weekend, however, the game turned on its head after the main break and it was the Saints who came away with the four points.
Still, the ball is in the Cats court and they can lock in a top four position this weekend with a win against the Eagles. They currently sit in fourth spot on the ladder and are two points clear of the Lions in fifth. And if the Cats can win by a massive margin on Saturday they also have the chance to momentarily leap frog both the Giants (3rd) and the Power (2nd).
In lineup news for this weekend, the Cats have made a trio of changes. Mullin, Knevitt, and Rohan make way for Tuohy, Bews and Bruhn.
At the other end of the ladder are West Coast. Their destiny was settled a long time ago and they’ll be finishing the year in the bottom three for the third straight season.
The Eagles were embarrassed at home by an extremely undermanned Blues outfit last weekend (34-99) despite many having them as favourites in that matchup. The Eagles had a chance to record three straight wins but were bitterly disappointing.
The Eagles will be the undermanned team in the fixture this time around, with a whole host of key players unavailable due to injury. Headlining the outs are Jeremy McGovern and Liam Ryan, while there are no notable inclusions.
Match Prediction: Rarely do you see match lines set north of 10 goals, but that’s exactly what we have on our hands here as the Cats are currently 61.5 point favourites. The Eagles are faced with an impossible task and I can’t see them getting anywhere near the Cats. On top of that, the Cats will be desperate to pile on the score to improve their percentage to give themselves a chance of rising up the ladder. Simply put, I expect the Cats to absolutely dominate this matchup.

Stengle, Neale, O. Henry 2+ Goals Each – As mentioned above, I’m expecting an absolute bloodbath at the Cattery. The Cats forwards should have a field day and the three I’ve included in my SGM will all get plenty of chances to hit the scoreboard.
