2024 AFL Round 22 Preview & Betting Tips
North Melbourne vs West Coast
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, August 10th, Blundstone Arena
North Melbourne got some reward for effort last weekend when they secured an elusive win against the bottom-dwellers, Richmond. The young Kangaroos had been playing some solid footy post-bye without seeing much success, but that changed in the spoon-off last Saturday.
The Kangaroos now have three wins to their name and will be starting to build some important confidence to take into 2025 where fans will be expecting a big spike in wins. The Roos have made just the two changes at selection this week, with Liam Shiels and Miller Bergman coming in for Jaidyn Stephenson and Dylan Stephens.
Similarly, West Coast scored a rare win last weekend when they defeated the hopeless-on-the-road Suns. The Eagles trailed at the end of each of the first three quarters on their home deck but came home strong to win by 10 points (97-87).
The Eagles have now won four games this year which is an improvement from 2023 where they won three and 2022 where they won two. However, if they continue along this trajectory of snail-like improvement all hell will break loose out west.
In lineup news for this weekend, Andrew Gaff, who has announced he will retire at season’s end, comes in for the much taller Harry Edwards.
Match Prediction: What a fantastic opportunity on offer for both clubs here to secure back-to-back wins. Both will have some belief after securing the chocolates last weekend, but only one will taste success once again on Saturday.
For me, the game being played in Tassie is a big advantage for the Kangaroos. Although they’re also very young, this will be the first game at Blundstone for a lot of these Eagles. The conditions can get extremely difficult there and the Kangaroos have the advantage of already having three games under their belt at the venue this season.
On top of that, North are also the more trustworthy side. They’ve been extremely honest since their bye and have only suffered one blowout loss which was against the ladder-leading Swans at the SCG. The Eagles also haven’t won an away game this season, and I can’t see that changing this weekend.

North Melbourne to Win – For the reasons mentioned above.
Colby McKercher 25+ Disposals – He’s a disposal machine and has the easy role across half back. I’m expecting another big game from the young star.
Cam Zurhaar 2+ Goals – After a quiet first five games, Zurhaar has put together a really strong season in a tough role for North. He should get some reward for effort and hit the scoreboard against the Eagles.
SGM Odds: $3.10 at BoomBet
