Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs

Port Adelaide were under pressure to perform in their clash against the lowly Saints last weekend and while they certainly didn’t set the world on fire, they managed to secure the all-important four points (62-60).
Under fire coach Ken Hinkley’s relief after the win was visible as he got emotional in the immediate post-game interview. However, he’ll know one good win doesn’t make a season, and his boys will need to get the job done again this weekend.
The Power will be without luckless former first round pick Josh Sinn who suffered yet another injury last outing. Will Lorenz, who made his debut as the sub against the Saints, will return to the SANFL, while Jase Burgoyne and Francis Evans are the two inclusions.
The Power remain without talls Ivan Soldo (3 weeks), Charlie Dixon (1 week), and Esava Ratugolea (1 week), while defender Ryan Burton is also a couple of weeks away.
The Western Bulldogs have banked wins on either side of their Round 15 bye and head into Round 17 looking to win three in a row for the first time this season. They destroyed the lethargic Dockers at Marvel Stadium two starts back (149-82) and took care of the last-placed Kangaroos at the same venue last weekend.
In a move not many saw coming, coach Luke Beveridge sent Rory Lobb down back a couple of weeks ago to avoid dropping him back to the 2’s; and it’s been so far so good for Lobb as an intercept defender, although his job will become more difficult with lockdown defender Liam Jones out with injury this weekend.
In positive news for the Dogs, Nick Coffield will make his long-awaited return from injury, which somewhat helps the loss of Jones. Buku Khamis also gets his chance back in the seniors and has shown the ability to play a solid role in defence.
Match Prediction: Although the Power are the higher ranked club on the ladder and also have home ground advantage on their side, it’s the Bulldogs who are currently listed as the narrow favourites in this crucial encounter.
The Dogs are clearly in the better form of the pair and should be too good for the current version of the Power, providing they bring the same intensity they’ve been playing with since turning their form around in Round 8.
