2024 AFL Round 11 Preview & Betting Tips
North Melbourne vs Port Adelaide
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, May 25th, Blundstone Arena
Round 11 is here and North Melbourne are still without a win to their name in 2024. In fact, they haven’t been anywhere close to getting a win, with their closest loss being 26 points against the Dockers back in Round 2.
Most recently the Kangaroos were upstaged by the Bombers by 40 points (66-106) in what was one of their more competitive clashes – they even outscored their opposition in both the second and fourth quarter, although were completely dismantled in the third term (50-12).
Considering last weekend was a decent performance by their lowly standards, the Roos have made just the one change at selection. Jackson Archer has shown flashes of ability as a lockdown defender this season and will come in for the injured Miles Bergman.
Port Adelaide were asleep at the wheel in the first three quarters of their recent matchup with the Hawks and trailed by as many as 41 points during the third term; however, a late flurry of goals including two in the final 30 seconds saw them steal the four points in dramatic fashion (80-79).
It was a crucial win for the Power as a loss would’ve seen them slip to ninth, whereas the win has them currently occupying fourth spot on the ladder. The Power are now on their third two-game win streak for the season and will be attempting to win three on the spin for the first time.
Ken Hinkley and his coaching staff have opted to make three changes at selection with only one of them being forced. Josh Sinn’s unlucky run with injury continued when he fractured his collarbone last weekend, while Charlie Dixon will be rested for the second time this campaign. Captain Connor Rozee headlines the ins after the star midfielder missed the past two weeks nursing a minor hamstring injury.
Match Prediction: The Roos have been one of the constants in the wooden spoon race for a number of years now, while the Power have achieved numerous top four finishes; with that said, it’s no surprise that the visitors have dominated this matchup with wins in nine of their past 10 meetings.
The Roos are 0-10 this season with an average losing margin of 51.4 points and have lost their past three matches against the Power by 52, 69, and 70 points, and the latter two were also at Blundstone Arena. I expect another one-sided scoreline on Saturday, with the Power covering the big spread.

Willie Rioli 2+ Goals – Has been in fantastic form in recent weeks and will get a favourable matchup against North’s inexperienced defence. Should be hitting the scoreboard here.
Darcy Byrne-Jones Anytime Goal Scorer – He was the hero last weekend and has kicked four goals from his past two matches. Should get at least one again on Saturday.
Connor Rozee Anytime Goal Scorer – Comes back into the side after missing a few weeks with a hamstring. I expect him to spend a bit more time forward this week as he rebuilds his match fitness.
Zac Fisher 25+ Disposals – With Sheezel in the midfield and McKercher out injured, Fisher will be the main distributor out of defence. He’ll also be on kick-in duty and should get plenty of footy.
Jason Horne-Francis – Comes up against his old side in career game #50. He’ll be keen to make a statement with another strong performance.
SGM Odds: $4.10 at BoomBet
