Flemington hosts its annual ANZAC Day meeting on Thursday as racegoers honour the fallen and those who have served for our country. The VRC St Leger is the feature event over 2800m and that race comes up in race six at 3:55pm (AEST). The track should stay in the Good range with the first race starting at 1pm over 1100m.

Race 4: Colonel Sybil Irving MBE - 2:45pm (AEST)
(2) Zamborghini has had a freshen up in between runs but will be fit enough after two recent trials. Kah is the jockey for the first time and the key here is a Dry track I think. If the track stays Good, it's a bet, if it is changed to Soft, then no bet. He has a good record on Good tracks having won on four occasions from nine starts. His last win came at The Valley on December 15 where he settled 4th on that occasion and from barrier five I think he will be at around 4th in the run here. Last start he had barrier one and got way too far back and was never in it (12th).
(3) Paperboy is another who likes Dry tracks but he can at times get a long way back in his races. If the pace is frantic at the start he might storm over the top of them late, but if it's a slowly run race then it will be a worry for punters.
(5) Intrepid Eagle is consistent and should go close to placing again in this for the McEvoy team. He has won over the 1400m before and he made up good late ground at Bendigo last start when 2nd.
(2) Zamborghini E/W

Race 6: VRC St Leger - 3:55pm (AEST)
(1) Ganbare for the strong Waterhouse & Bott combination comes into this race after running 9th in the ATC Derby at Randwick last start so obviously has strong form lines around it. Riff Rocket was too superior for the colt on that occasion but he kept plugging away late on the Heavy8 track. A Good track here would be better as he has won three times on the Dry surface. His 4th in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas two starts back was very good on the Dry and he did lead on that occasion. Leading all of the way at headquarters is tough so he may settle 3rd or 4th in this.
(4) Cherokee Brave ran home well at Caulfield on April 6 over 2400m so the extra 400m looks ok. It's his first race at Flemington but he is fit and ready.
(8) Maputo also ran on well over 2400m on April 6 at Caulfield and he scored well before that at Pakenham.
(1) Ganbare

Race 8: Auckland Thoroughbred Racing Trophy - 5:05pm (AEST)
(3) WIlliams Thomas hasn’t won in three years but at big odds he is worth a play here I reckon. On a preferred Good surface, he will get back over the 1100m and will need luck but he has raced in a lot more harder races than this. He likes this distance and has won three times when first up from a spell.
(6) Master Montaro has been freshened after running really well in his last five races so I would be surprised if he doesn’t place here. From barrier 13 he might have to go to the grandstand or down the middle but she knows Flemington having placed twice previously.
(9) Flying On A Limb goes better on the Soft but has to be included in this. She does get back in her races and hasn’t placed over this distance but her 8th at Flemington last start (2.4L) was better than it looked.
(3) William Thomas E/W
