Flemington will host a 10-race program on Saturday and a Dry track awaits horses with the first race starting at 12:15pm (AEDT). The Black Caviar Lightning Stakes is the highlight with Imperatriz drawing well in 2 and will be favourite. The CS Hayes Stakes is another good race on the program with the boys running over 1400m. King Colorado is the likely favourite after a very good run last start.

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, February 17th 2024
Race 1: Goodwood Trophy - 12:15pm (AEDT)
(3) Aramco won over this track & distance last start so will go into this race as fav. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr trained gelding has won 3 from 5 starts on Dry ground and he will settle on speed for Lane which may suit in a small field. He is up in class here but with 54.5kg he should have a bit left in the tank late.
(7) Star Vega won after they went quick up front at Hillside two starts back so will want speed in the race again here. Last start he got back again and the speed was slower but he still ran on well for 5th at Caulfield. Tempo will determine his chances here.
(2) El Soleado won well last start but goes up in grade. He will settle in between Aramco and Star Vega and should be prominent late. Going for 3 in a row and the Good track suits.
(3) Aramco

Race 4: Royal Ascot Plate - 1:55pm (AEDT)
*SCRATCHED* (9) Turbeau is the best roughie of the day I reckon and at big odds, I think he can place. He is having his fifth run after his spell and is 100 percent fit. He has won 7 from 26 starts on Dry ground and he can handle the distance having placed over it previously. From a good barrier (3) he should be able to settle 4th or 5th after settling and Dee, who rides him for the first time can press go and the 400m and see what his got. On January 27 he ran pretty well when 7th but only beaten 2L. Its his first start at Flemington and the track might suit.
(4) Who Dares has drawn wide in 11 and if drawn closer to the fence, he would be on top. For his first try over the mile McNeil will try to have the gelding in a position where he doesn't have to cover too much ground which may be hard from the draw. He has been beaten twice in his last 4 starts by a head after looking the winner and may be one of those horses who just loves running a drum.
(5) Circle Of Fire is first up after a 6 month spell and the Maher trained gelding has the inside draw and his starts last year suggest he is very consistent and he is rarely away from the placings. Has won over the distance. Interesting watch.
Race 7: CS Hayes Stakes GROUP 3 - 3:40pm (AEDT)
(2) King Colorado was huge last start on a Good track at Caulfield. Pre-race the Maher stable admitted the King would need the run and post race said they were delighted with his effort and he ran better than expected. He has won over the 1400m previously and barrier 9 isn't too bad because he will get back to midfield or beyond anyway. Zahra stays on and the colt will be a lot fitter this time.
(7) Otago returns after winning a Cranbourne trial 2 weeks ago. Before that he was odds on and saluted over this track & distance. He is 2 from 2 on the Dry and has drawn well in 3.
(12) Et Tu Brute has drawn wide in 11 which doesn’t help his winning chances. He is versatile though and can sit forward or back in his races so it will be an important decision for Lane to make early.
(2) King Colorado
$3.20 (2 Units)
