Last week was a special week in the PGA Tour with fan favourite Rickie Fowler finally getting back on the winners list with his victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The top golfers in the world now make their way to Silvis, Illinois this for this weekend’s tournament, which is the John Deere Classic. After finding last week’s winner at $15, Shannon Buckley is back with his preview and betting tips for the upcoming event below.
PGA Tour: John Deere Classic Betting Tips
TPC Deere Run, Silvis, IL Thursday July 6th – Sunday July 9th
TPC Deere Run hosts the 72- hole tournament which follows on after the Rocket Mortgage Classic. We won’t see as many major players as the previous tournaments, but still plenty of class to be seen.
The Field
The 2023 John Deere Classic is set for a $7.4Million purse with the winner expected to take home just over $1.3Million. Due to the timing of this event, it appears most of the major players have opted to skip this tournament and focus on the Scottish Open which is played the week after. This will give those young golfers a nice spotlight and give them the chance to play some more competitive golf with plenty still on offer. Five of the last eleven winners have been rookies. Not only is this event worth plenty of dough but offers three exemptions into the open championship.
The Course
The course is a par 71 that is just over 6.6km in distance. The course was created by D.A. Weibring. The course is located along the rock river with water coming into play on three holes. The course is known to be tricky and can test players. It appears to be a lot more difficult than what we saw last week. You’d expect to win the event you would require -18 or better to be in with a chance.
Betting Tips
Denny McCarthy $15/$2.70 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at TAB
The favourite of the field with Russell Henley here. Denny has been playing some nice golf and gets an easier field here. Denny will require his magic putter as always which will be key for him to win this event. Denny finished T20 at the US Open and then came 7th in the travellers. He has had a break and now heads here to compete. Keen on taking Denny to finish top 10 at $2.70 which is longer odds than Henley, even though he is favourite to win the event.
Russell HENLEY $17/$2.65 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at Neds
Henley has been playing some nice golf where he has finished top 20 in 7 of his last 8 events. He finished T4 in the masters which was a fantastic effort for him. He gets much easier competition here and will be a top pick for anyone here.
Adam HADWIN $26/$4.50 (WIN/TOP 10) – Bet Now at Ladbrokes
Knocked off in the playoff to Rickie FOWLER last week after playing an exceptional round of golf finishing -24. If he keeps that form he will be in for a sniff here with easier company than last week.
