Anastasia Potapova vs Camila Giorgi

Tuesday June 28th, 9:30pm AEST

It's going to be a power struggle of sorts in Eastbourne tonight as Anastasia Potapova and Camila Giorgi square off in the Wimbledon lead-up tournament in Eastbourne.

There is a great opportunity to gain valuable ranking points for both players here, with the field not quite as strong as many fields you will see across the course of the calendar year.

On ratings, I have Potapova shorter than the current market. I have been a little thrown off by the form of Giorgi more recently, with the Italian genuinely struggling to find consistency and range in her serve.

She snuck over the line against Madison Brengle in Nottingham, but has backed that up with two poor performances against Mandlik in Nottingham, and Venus Williams in the first round in Birmingham. It was another error-riddled performance against Williams as a heavy favourite, with Giorgi producing 10 double faults, backing up the 20(!) double faults she produced against Mandlik.

Potapova is going to force the issue on the return of serve, notably on the Italian's second serve, so it'll be interesting to see the double fault count, and second serve points won.

Potapova looked solid in her three wins in Birmingham, and put in a very respectful performance in the semi-final against eventual title winner Ostapenko.

On form, I will side with the Russian here.
