There’s another great day of racing ahead at Randwick this weekend with 10 races on the Easter Saturday card. Anamoe will be running around in the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes in what is one of four Group 1 races on the schedule. Here, we bring you our thoughts and betting strategy for every race, courtesy of Blake Lalor.
Randwick Racing Tips – Saturday, April 8th 2023
Race 1
(2) Inhibitions is drawn perfectly here in gate 1 after running 2nd last start from gate 2. The horse should’ve led the race there but instead ended up off the rail and midfield. From gate 1 this time there’s no chance the horse doesn’t get run of the race and he should be saluting.
(6) Make A Call looks the biggest danger here coming out of the same race and running 4th from back in the field. I still have Inhibitions as the horse to beat but this horse could make it interesting.
(5) Kintyre has beaten Inhibitions previously on dry ground. He was beaten comfortably by the same horse on wet so it’s difficult to get a read on how he’ll measure up but he should be relatively competitive provided he handles the wet.
(2) Inhibitions - Win
$4.40 (2 Units)
Race 2
(6) Rediener was due to run on Wednesday at Hawkesbury with Joao Moreira aboard but Chris Waller has elected to go for black-type on Saturday. Rediener finished a solid 6th behind numerous horses he meets again here. His price is ridiculous considering the jockey, trainer, barrier draw, and distance he finished behind the favourites of this race last time.
(9) Cool Jakey needs to handle the wet ground on Saturday but should find the lead in this race and be very hard to run down on a track which will probably exhibit some sort of leader bias considering the recent traffic and poor weather.
(1) Hell I Am is a different horse on wet ground. His record speaks for itself and there’s a good reason why he’s the top weight in this event. Hugh Bowman is a strong booking and from barrier 10 he should be looking to come wide in the straight on potentially the better part of the track.
(6) Rediener - Each Way
$29/$8 (1 Unit)
Race 3
(3) Autumn Bullet is a filly who carries a big weight on her shoulders being one of the first runners out of The Autumn Sun who was an absolute superstar in his short career. She looks to have attained some of her Sire’s quality and has exhibited that in trials and on debut. She’ll be tough to beat here.
(6) Kimochi is the danger and a filly I’ve been following since her debut. Was on her there where she should’ve won then stuck with her last start where she was too good for her rivals and saluted on the Kenso track. James McDonald is a good booking.
(9) Kristilli flew late in the same race as Kimochi last time so has to be given some respect if Kimochi is so short in the market. Her price may be a touch of overs especially with Joao Moreira booked to ride.
(3) Autumn Bullet - Win
$3 (2 Units)
Race 4
(11) Short Shorts is the top selection in this race having won her way into this race 1st up in impressive fashion at Kembla Grange. She’ll settle near the speed which will take a lot of luck out the equation. That’s an important factor in these big fields. She handles wet so will get her chance.
(5) Kayobi should get a great run from gate 4 provided she doesn’t get buried behind a wall of horses at any stage and has clear running to let down in the straight. She looks like she deserves favouritism here and will run well.
(13) Sebrenco is a big price in this race. She should have won against True Crime given she was crowded at a crucial stage in the race. She loves racing in wet conditions and has an explosive turn of foot which she can use to let down the outside of the field in the straight.

Race 5
(4) Kote will grow a leg in the wet conditions on Saturday. He was a good thing beaten just about last time behind Opal Ridge and that was on dry! Wide gate will be a challenge but nothing he can’t overcome.
(1) Aft Cabin is not trustworthy. He looks like a talented horse and highly capable of winning this race but he’s proven difficult to follow in his last few and there’s a risk that could continue today.
(10) Lady Laguna kept on fighting through the line in Melbourne last time behind Parisal and Magic Time who came out to win in Sydney last weekend in emphatic fashion. That’s good form for this and Joao Moreira is aboard. Look out!
(4) Kote - Each Way
$11/$2.60 (1 Unit)
Race 6
(1) Pennyweka is a true stayer. She demonstrated that winning the G1 New Zealand Oaks last start in dominant fashion running away from them through the line! She’ll find this race relatively easy to beat if she performs to the same level as her last start under Damian Lane.
(2) Pavitra was 2nd to Prowess, another Kiwi raider in the Vinery Stud Stakes. She doesn’t look to be as strong over 2000m+ as Pennyweka but she’s tough. Dry ground would’ve been more suitable as well.
(3) Fireburn gets her preferred track conditions after quite some time. She needs to handle the 2400m but is a tough little filly and did well enough to finish 3rd over 2000m last time.
(1) Pennyweka - Each Way
$7/$2.40 (1 Unit)
Race 7
(7) Surefire is going to get a beautiful run from gate 6 potentially as good as he got it last time under Joao Moriera when sneaking up the rail to win the G2 Chairman’s Quality. He’ll love having only 52.5kg on wet ground so expect him to go well.
(1) Gold Trip finally gets a suitable trip over 3200m here after working home incredibly well over 2000m and 2400m in his last 2 starts. He handles wet ground and has James McDonald aboard at the right time when he’s ready to peak.
(3) Baron Samedi is the international raider of the race with Tom Marquand aboard. He’s competed in some very high-quality races against multiple high-calibre horses including Kyprios and Emily Dickinson. Barrier 20 is a horror draw but the horse’s ability will take him a long way in this race.
(7) Surefire - Each Way
$14/$4 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(1) Anamoe wins. He’s the country’s best horse and has showed no signs of regression or fatigue through his 3 starts so far. Last year’s Cox Plate winner returns to the 2000m here and will take a world of beating after being able to salute in the George Ryder last start after racing 3-wide without cover the whole way.
(4) Cascadian produced one of the all-time great wins last start at Flemington in the Australian Cup over 2000m. He loves the wet, is drawn well and goes well at this track. There’s only one thing stopping him from winning again, and that’s Anamoe.
(12) Montefilia was 2nd in the Tancred over 2400m last time. Drops back to 2000m here and gets conditions to suit. She’ll have to be good to beat a few of these but should be thereabouts.
(1) Anamoe - Win
$2.70 (2 Units)
Race 9
(1) Alcohol Free is a 4-time group 1 winner from Europe. That’s no easy feat and the mare’s class should show here from gate 2 with James McDonald aboard. She trialled nicely leading up to her first run in Australia so expecting her to measure up well.
(8) Atishu is drawn inside Alcohol Free and motored home last time from the rear after drawing wide. She’ll be far better suited on the rail this time and loves the wet ground so will be in the finish.
(7) Sirileo Miss will go forward and give the field something to chase here. She’s struck a purple patch of form in Melbourne and now comes to Sydney. Her form is not a strong as some in this race but she’s a capable mare nonetheless.

Race 10
(9) Never Talk is the true wet-tracker of this field. She’s an absolute swimmer and can launch a late attack in this race to take advantage of what looks as though it’ll be a hot tempo up front.
(4) Zapateo is the deserving favourite here and will be hard to beat. She’s building an exceptional record but is short for such a big field which is deterring me.
(13) Dalchini is a horse slightly left of field. Light weight and flew late last start. If she closes strongly again this time on the wet, there could be a few tiring horses ahead of her that she can overtake.
