JD Gaming vs LNG Esports
LPL 2022 Spring Week 8
Monday was an interesting day in the LPL, with Anyone's Legend upsetting the reigning LoL world champions EDward Gaming and Team WE forcing a very tight series against FunPlus Phoenix. However, the unexpected results weren't that shocking, knowing that most LPL teams’ field highly talented players. There will be days when teams, who are otherwise much stronger, will lose against a weaker opponent.
Obviously, we can't always count on that happening, but there are things to be said about the teams' placement in the league and their talent. In this example, we have JD Gaming as 2.20 underdogs against LNG Esports, who are 1.60 favourites.
The public and the bookies seem to agree that LNG is a top-tier team, whereas JD Gaming are a couple of tiers below. Just a couple of weeks back, JD Gaming were considered even weaker, but they bounced back with a couple of solid showings and proved to everyone that their iffy start to the season doesn't mean much.
Now they are getting the respect they deserve and are a team everyone should watch out for. I don't expect them to win the league, but they will be in the race for a strong finish.
LNG Esports are 8-4, which is still great, but LNG were in a much better spot just a few weeks back, before they lost against Weibo Gaming, Victory Five, and Top Esports. I wouldn't overreact to those defeats, and I still consider LNG Esports to be one of the top-four teams in the league, but they can bleed and are capable of losing against teams that might be weaker than them.
Based on the season-long results, LNG should defeat JD Gaming, and I don't see a problem with that. But LNG have been trending downwards, whereas JDG have been improving, so I don't expect to see anything less than a three-map match between these two Chinese LoL juggernauts.
Victory Five vs Bilibili Gaming
LPL 2022 Spring Week 8
Victory Five were thought of very highly a couple of weeks back when they defeated LNG Esports, and they have since lost against JD Gaming (0-2) and defeated UltraPrime (2-0), which brought their value down a bit. Still, they are 1.40 favourites to defeat Bilibili Gaming, who have had a very up and down season so far.
Don't get me wrong, Bilibili Gaming are still very strong, but they're only 7-5, so we have yet to see them really step it up and show what they're capable of. Priced at 2.75, Bilibili Gaming are expected to struggle against Victory Five, and I can agree that V5 have been playing better. But I expected to see the odds a bit closer.
At 1.40, Victory Five are a bit overrated. They have shown more this season and will likely achieve much more by the end of the LPL 2022 Spring, but Bilibili Gaming are not as weak as their odds suggest. Just last week, Bilibili Gaming nearly won against Top Esports (1-2), they defeated JD Gaming (2-1) a week prior, and they had a few solid performances across the opening four weeks of the split.
When I say that Victory Five are overrated, I am not trying to say that they will lose against Bilibili Gaming. Victory Five are still in a better spot to win this match, but the odds should be much closer, so if you're looking for a value bet, you have to take Bilibili Gaming.
