2021 AFL Round 23 Western Bulldogs vs Port Adelaide Tips
Marvel Stadium, Friday 20th August 7:50pm (AEST)
After occupying a top two spot for nearly the whole duration of the season, the Western Bulldogs now find themselves in a must-win match to secure a top four spot. Standing in their way are arguably the most in-form team in the competition in the Power.
Match Prediction
The Western Bulldogs haven’t been at their brilliant best since their Round 13 bye, winning just four of their nine games leading into Round 23. Last weekend was perhaps their worst performance of the season when going down to the lowly Hawks by 27 points in Tasmania. That loss was their second in a row, making it the first time this season they’ve lost consecutive games.
Port Adelaide looked in trouble when they trailed Carlton by four goals midway through the second quarter of their Round 22 clash; however, the Power would then go onto kick the last 19 goals of the game to win by 95 points at home. That was the fifth straight win for the Power and the eighth from their last nine games, which is the best current streak in the AFL as we approach the last round of the season.
Neither of these clubs have major injury concerns as they approach what they will hope to be fruitful finals campaigns. For the Bulldogs, Josh Bruce is the most important member missing through injury on the back of the ACL tear he suffered a couple of weeks ago. Meanwhile, the Power are going to be without Hamish Hartlett for the next 2-3 weeks, and ruckman Scott Lycett will have to pass a fitness test for this weekend after copping a knock to his knee against the Blues.
These clubs battled earlier in the season in Adelaide when the Bulldogs earned a hard-fought 19-point victory on the road. The Bulldogs were on the top of the game during that clash and have certainly been out of sorts over the past fortnight, but at home and desperately needing a win to assure a top four finish, we expect them to be the hungrier team and to get the job done against a Power side that has struggled against top tier opponents this campaign.

Same Game Multi
We’re back with our Same Game Multi’s for the final round of the 2021 home and away season. For the first of three legs we’ll be backing in Adam Treloar to collect at least 20 disposals, which he’s done in nine of his 12 games this season. Treloar was quiet against the Hawks last weekend but always plays well in Melbourne and is a proven big-game performer. Secondly, we’ll be taking Robbie Gray, who’s coming off a 19-disposal outing against the Blues, to collect at least 15 touches on Friday night. We expect the Power superstar to be injected into the midfield for large portions of this fixture to try and match it with the formidable Bulldogs midfield. Finally, we’ll be adding in Bulldogs small forward Cody Weightman to kick two or more goals. He’s had a fantastic second season in the league and kicked two of his team’s five goals last weekend and should get plenty of looks again against the Power.
