Racing in Queensland this Saturday is back at Eagle Farm and it looks a great day to have a bet, with nine races on the card. There’s plenty of talented horses stepping out and some wide open fields which should make for some strong betting opportunities.
Billy Bestford is back once again to bring you his best bets and race previews for all the key races.

Eagle Farm Racing Tips: Saturday February 4th
Race 2
(1) Head Of State hasn’t won for a while but his two runs back this prep have been good and he looks ready to win now 3rd up. He made good ground last start behind Military Gambler and now gets a weight swing in favour. Think he is well suited rising in trip and might be able to find some of that early career form here.
(2) Military Gambler was impressive winning last start over 2000m and is in very good form. Maps once again to get all the favours and no doubt he looks the only other winning chance in the race.
(5) Guts ‘N’ Glory gets a deserved crack in town after a string of strong performances at the provincials. This is obviously much tougher but he is a horse in form and makes his own luck up near the speed.
(4) Namakwa next best.
(1) Head Of State
$2.90 (2 units)
Race 5
(2) Buying Time could not have been more impressive first up, bolting in by three lengths. That was a win which screamed to me a horse with plenty of ability and this looks a logical step up in grade. Drawn a touch wide but I think they can afford to go back and give the horse the last shot at them. Has been kept fresh for this and has two wins at this trip.
(1 Streaka is the class runner of the field and looks ready to peak 3rd up from a spell. Looks to lead these from a low draw and no doubt will give them all something to chase. With race fitness on side he will be the main danger.
(4) Zavaboom is super honest and while he has been struggling to win of late, rarely puts in a poor run. Expect he will be charging over the top of them at the business end.
(12) Inasec has run two close 2nd this prep and should be rock hard fit now. Gets down to carry just 52kg after the apprentice claim.
(2) Buying Time
$2.50 (3 units)
Race 6
Want to have something each way on (5) Centre Bounce in this race. Won well down in NSW before tackling a similar race to this at Doomben last start. You could argue she probably should have won that race, when not seeing clear running and only just missing the winner. The winner of that race is $4 here while this horse is four times that price?
That winner we speak of is (1) Tsarina Sophia who did well to justify the short quote on resumption last start. That was her first run in QLD and clearly she has adapted to life well up here. She’s lightly raced and having won three from four, clearly has scope to make her way through the grades.
(2) Hang Five will enjoy rising to 1400m after a strong effort fresh over 1200m. Was doing best work late there and likes racing here at Eagle Farm. Has been a winner 2nd up in the past.
(6) Northern Pride has been racing consistently and looks the next best chance.
(5) Centre Bounce
$17/$4.20 (0.25/1 units)
Race 9
Think we can round out the day with a win from (16) Comrade Rosa. This horse hasn’t been kind to punters in her career but she gets her chance today. Just got too far back when having her first run up here in QLD and I expect Maloney doesn;t make the same mistake twice. She’s drawn to get a nice trail into the straight and the extra 100m in trip and a big, long straight should suit.
(9) Whitewater is a good fresh horse and comes into this off a good trial win. Looked sharp there and while he will improve out in trip, looks a solid enough chance here.
(8) Pentito is 4th up now and usually does his best work at this stage of a prep. Will enjoy getting away from a tight Gold Coast track and should be winding up late.
(16) Comrade Rosa
$2.25 (3 units)
