Big Bash League (BBL14) Fantasy Tips: Strikers vs Scorchers
Adelaide Oval, Tuesday 7:15pm AEDT
Strikers Predicted XI: Matt Short, D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn, Ollie Pope, Alex Ross, Jamie Overton, James Bazley, Liam Scott, Henry Thornton, Cameron Boyce, Lloyd Pope
Scorchers Predicted XI: Finn Allen, Matthew Hurst, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Ashton Turner, Nick Hobson, Ashton Agar, Matthew Kelly, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Lance Morris
A dangerous Strikers batting lineup comes up against a highly-talented Scorchers bowling outfit, so whoever can get on top in that battle will go a long way to winning this match. The smaller square boundaries of the Adelaide Oval might suit the Strikers hitting power, while they have a big reliance on spin if the pitch is naturally a bit slower.
Fantasy Plays
Love It – Jamie Overton ($19,400)
Jamie Overton has had a cracking start to BBL14 with four fantastic fantasy scores. He’s made runs in three of the four matches, and has 7 wickets so far for the series, bowling a full allotment of overs every match. He’s going to be in the game for sure, and although his price has gone up to premium levels, he’s the stand out all-rounder on the slate.
Love It – Ollie Pope ($14,500)
A slow start to the BBL for the English gun batsman but he’s starting to find his feet now in Australia. His price is too low for someone so dangerous with the bat. I expect him to enjoy batting on the Adelaide Oval and is a big chance to go large!
Don’t Love It – Cooper Connolly ($19,500)
The young WA prodigy is at a massive price now after some impressive performances to start BBL14. The problem is that Connolly’s runs have been slow, so we’re not getting much value from his run rate. He’s also bowled limited overs and been belted on a couple of occasions. For someone who is young and inconsistent, I just can’t pay up for him in this spot.
Don’t Love It – Andrew Tye ($15,600)
Andrew Tye gets picked a lot on reputation but at 38 years of age, he’s just not the same bowler he was at his T20 peak. Tye has taken just 3 wickets so far in BBL14, has yet to bowl a full 4 overs, and his economy isn’t anything flattering. Happy to pass here against a dangerous batting opposition.
Who Knows – Finn Allen ($14,000)
Finn Allen has arguably been the biggest disappointment of BBL14. The much-hyped Kiwi superstar hasn’t got out of first gear so far this season with a total of 12 balls faced in 4 matches, including a couple of recent ducks that just completely ruin your fantasy team. If you’re entering one team, you might want to fade him, but if you are entering multiple teams, then he’s definitely worth including in a couple. It looks like a fantastic bounce back spot for Allen at a good price when the field is likely to stay away. He’ll enjoy batting in Adelaide and if it’s a run fest, then expect Allen to go large which could win you the slate!
