On Wednesday, The Entain Group announced that their sports betting sites Betstar and Bookmaker would both be ceasing operations.
Betstar was one of the older Australian sportsbooks still in operation. Established by the Eskander family in 2007, Betstar was acquired by Ladbrokes in 2014. Betstar always offered a quality product with good software, odds and promotions and was a popular choice for sports betting punters for many years.
Similarly Bookmaker was a popular sportsbook since it was established in 2012 before also being acquired by Ladbrokes.
In recent times, Betstar and Bookmaker haven’t been given the same push as Entain’s other leading sports betting brands in Ladbrokes and Neds. They haven’t been able to provide a point of difference to the two main brands, and as such, Entain have made the decision to close the doors of Betstar and Bookmaker effective immediately.
A statement on both the Betstar and Bookmaker websites explained the decision as follows:
"Part of our commitment at Entain is to deliver the best customer experience. We do that through our market-leading approach to product development, content creation and player safety. While Betstar and Bookmaker have been an important part of our history, upon reflection the platforms no longer provides a customer experience that could be considered best in class. For that reason, Betstar and Bookmaker will no longer operate from the 22nd of February 2023."
All Betstar and Bookmaker customers will have their accounts merged with their existing Ladbrokes account, including account balances and pending bets.
