AFL Daily Fantasy Tips 2024: Round 22 Friday

August 8th 2024, 11:30pm, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL FAntasy Tips

Round 22 of the 2024 AFL Premiership Season gets underway this Friday night in what is now a crucial match for both teams as Sydney host Collingwood at the SCG. The Swans had looked to be running away with the season and odds on favourites for the flag 6 weeks ago. But since then they have lost five of their last six games and now need to keep winning to avoid losing top spot and falling back into the log of teams from second to fifth. Meanwhile, Collingwood are doing everything they can to keep any hope of going back to back alive as they sit two wins out of the top 8 with just three games to go.

Draftstars continue to offer massive prize pools with the Friday main contest worth $50,000 along with their usual variety of alternate contests

Weather

21 and partly cloudy in Sydney, which means no weather impact for our fantasy teams.

Where to Attack?

Collingwood are the clear team to target in this single game slate. They have been giving up above league average points across almost all positions on the ground over the last 10 games. This includes the second most points in the league to key forwards over that period and fourth most points in the league to inside midfielders.

Sydney on the other hand have been very stingy for points to forwards and midfielders but slightly above league average for backs. This sets us up for a perfect game script of stacking up the Swans forwards and midfielders to go with the Collingwood defenders.

Game Script – Sydney forwards and midfielders, Collingwood backs

VALUE PLAYS

Jeremy Howe ($9,920) looks to have taken over the Magpies kick in duties in recent weeks taking 9 in the last game. He was able to leverage this to a 102 point fantasy game, which is obviously a huge return at this price point. This week will suit that role even better as if the Swans are on top there will be plenty of ball in the Magpies back line and it is one of the few positions that Sydney have conceded above league average scoring to this season.

Ned Long ($6,350) has been given centre bounce attendances in the Magpies last few games going at over 50% in three of the last four weeks. This resulted in a upside score of 72 fantasy points two weeks ago, which is a great value return when you are priced just above the minimum. Without Jordan De Goey in the lineup this week there will be midfield opportunity that will need to be soaked up, which means Long should keep his current role at a minimum.

Logan McDonald ($8,540) stands out an obvious key forward option to take advantage of the Magpies fantasy scoring leak to the position. He has shown upside at over 90 points in the right matchup this season. If you are worried he will draw the attention of Darcy Moore (who to be honest has not been at his best this year), look towards Joel Amartey ($7,990) at a small price discount.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Luke Parker ($11,550) as we all know has huge upside if he is given a full game. He came on last week as the sub and attended 43% of the Swans centre bounces indicating he will be used on the inside. Keep an eye on the subs prior to the start of the game, and if Parker is not on an obvious transition in this price range would be to move to Matt Roberts ($12,130) who has been absolutely lighting up fantasy scoreboards in the Swans losses posting scores of 93, 138 and 102 from his last three games.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Chad Warner ($13,800) has been in a rough patch after looking like close to the best player in the league during the first half of the season. This poor run has coincided with Sydney’s run of losses, but I firmly expect the Swans to get back to the winners circle this week and Warner is still getting plenty of time through the midfield. His price point has come down nicely and he will draw one of the best matchups in the league for inside midfielders on this slate.
