Weather
Brisbane - Sunny, 23 degrees.
Perth - Scattered showers, 20 degrees.
Melbourne - Showers, 14 degrees.
Beautiful day in Brisbane and we’re under the roof at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne so no issues there. A few showers are scheduled for Perth, so just keep an eye on conditions closer to the start time to see if it will have any impact on the game.
Where to Attack?
The obvious place to attack this slate is to stack Carlton players as six-goal favourites against the Roos. However North have been far improved over the last 5 weeks, and when you take a closer look at the numbers, they aren’t conceding a heap of fantasy points to the opposition recently.
The team on this slate that has been conceding points is Melbourne. They’ve been giving up above average numbers to the opposition forwards and inside mids so you can look to target some Fremantle players at home.
The one area Melbourne are typically strong is in the ruck. That’s also been a weakness of Freo. However it is hard to put much into the numbers with Sean Darcy missing multiple matches, and likely to return this week, while Max Gawn is still on the sidelines for the Dees.
It’s tough to find any trends to exploit between the Swans and Lions, but Brodie Grundy continues to be one of the toughest rucks to score against this season.
Game script: Carlton stacks, Fremantle forwards/mids
VALUE PLAYS
Harrison Petty ($6,990) remains a viable option for your lineups at a budget price in a ruck role with Max Gawn missing for another week. Sure, he’s going to be monstered by Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson, but if he’s getting around the ground, he should get opportunity to score for us at a minimum price. Could only manage a 44 against the Bombers in the wet last week, but that included 10 hitouts and 5 tackles, so hopefully he can improve on that.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Luke Parker ($12,800) returned to the Swans senior side last week and looked like a man on a mission to remain part of this potential Premiership team. As the sub, Parker came on in the third quarter and racked up 13 disposals, 6 tackles and 2 goals for 72 fantasy points in just 38% game time. Huge numbers! It’s a tougher matchup here against the Lions, and although Isaac Heeney returns, the role should still be there for Parker to play a full game in the middle with injuries to James Rowbottom (73% CBAs) and Justin McInerney (36% CBAs), as well as Callum Mills being rested. Parker is also available as a forward, and looks a great price for someone who is desperately hungry for the contest.
Harry McKay ($13,010) looks set for a big day against the Roos under the roof of Marvel Stadium with the Blues massive favourites. The Roos do have some soldiers returning to defence but it’s going to be a massive task to control the Blues’ twin towers. McKay is averaging 84.1 this season, but I like it when Carlton are only playing one ruck as it means McKay can get up the ground as the second ruck and get some valuable marks around the ground. Pivot to Charlie Curnow ($11,870) at a slightly cheaper price if your budget is tight.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Trent Rivers ($14,840) has been in superb form and is hard to ignore, even with the price recent hike. Rivers has 4 tons in his last 5 matches, including scores of 123 and 126 in the last two weeks, as he has thrived in his switch into the core midfield rotation after the injury to Christian Petracca. His ability to find room for easy marks, as well as high tackle counts, has resulted in some very strong fantasy scoring. Still available as a Defender on Draftstars, so worth considering.
Andrew Brayshaw ($15,080) looks an interesting premium option on this slate. His average is 101.8 for the season but if we dive in a bit more closely, we’ll find that his scores at home have been really strong - 146, 136, 105, 98, 87, 148, 84 and 118. There’s a couple of monster scores there that we are hoping he might be able to hit again in a favourable matchup against a weakened Melbourne midfield.
