World Wide Technology Championship Betting Tips
El Camaleon Golf Club, Mexico
Thursday 3rd – Sunday 6th November
The Field
A greatly reduced field competed in Bermuda last week but we are back to somewhat regular programming this week with a bunch of the top stars in the PGA Tour back in action for what will be henceforth referred to in this article as the WWTC.
The No.2 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, headlines the field along with other top names in the likes of Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Colin Morikawa and Billy Horschel.
Other major winners in the field include Justin Rose, Jason Day, Franciesco Molinari and Danny Willlet while past champions of the WWTC include Hovland, Brendan Todd, Matt Kuchar and Patton Kizzire.
The Course
El Camaleon Golf Course, Mayakoba, Mexico
Par 71 – 7,034 Yards
El Camaleon Golf Course in Mayakoba is a favourite of PGA Tour golfers year in year out. The unique course traverses through three different landscapes over 18 holes, as golfers wind through oceanfront, tropical jungle and mangrove laden holes.
Viktor Hovland is the back to back reigning champion of the event, but got the job done in different ways, winning on the back of brilliant ball striking in 2021 before getting white-hot with the flat stick in 2022. Mayakoba is a even test for all aspects of golf, and there’s not one certain criteria that we’ll be targeting this week outside of form.
Betting Tips
Two bug dogs, two value picks. With the field boasting some more star power this week, we are going back to our standard play of 2x2 this week.
Viktor Hovland ($11)
I do think Hovland is slight unders this week at $11 but how can you look past a back to back reigning champion? After missing the cut in his first two trips to Mayakoba, the Norweigan has been dominant over the last two years, and brings decent form into the event, having made the cut in his last six straight PGA Tour events and placed in the top 21 in five of those.
Billy Horschel ($19)
Horschel is a player who has a great record at Mayakoba despite never actually wining the event. In his last four trips there he has racked up finishes of T21, T8, T5 and T33. He also brings great form into the tournament with top 10 finishes in his last three straight PGA Tour events.
Adam Long ($81)
The first long shot I like this weekend is Adam Long. The American has wracked up three straight made cuts on the PGA Tour but it’s his impressive record at Mayakoba that I’m more interested in heading into this weekend. His last three tries in Mexico have yielded results of T2, T3 and T22. Love the value for Long to place in the top 40 this week.
Danny Lee ($226)
Looking WAY down the board for the final tip of the week as New Zealander Danny Lee is sticking out to me at massive odds. The Kiwi has made Mayakoba a regular stop over the past decade and has finished in the top 25 in his last four trips there including a T2 in 2017 and a T7 last year. Big value for top 40 here.
