Another PGA Tour event to look forward to this week as we head to the Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston for the annual Houston Open. As always, we have you covered with our full preview and betting tips for the event below.
PGA Tour Houston Open Betting Tips
Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston
Thursday 10th - Sunday 13th November
The Field
Some of the big names will be back in action this week but as is so often the case with these events in the lead up to Christmas, you wouldn’t classify the field as absolutely jam-packed.
No.2 ranked player in the world, Scottie Scheffler will headline the field, looking to go one better than his runner up finish last year to Jason Kokrak. Scheffler is the only player ranked inside the top 10 to be competing this week, although there are some other big names on the board including Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama and Jason Day.
Only two previous winners of the tournament will be teeing it up this week in Russel Henly (2017) and Jim Herman (2016). The rest of the list of previous champions are either taking the week off or have defected to LIV Golf.
The Course
Memorial Park Golf Course was originally created all the way back in 1912 and first served as a nine-hole public course. The $15 million dollar expansion and renovation was executed by famous designer Tom Doak, which were the building blocks for the PGA Tour level course you see today.
The course plays as a Par 70 at just over 7,400 yards, making it fairly lengthy by PGA Tour standards. It has generously wide fairways and alternate routes to get to the green, but the real challenge comes in the undulation and size of the greens.
Last year’s winner Jason Kokrak won the tournament with a fantastic display on the greens and strong putters is what we’ll be targeting again this year.
Betting Tips
Once again, we’ll be sticking to our guns and going with two guys at the top of the betting markets as well as two dark horses for the action this week.
Sam Burns ($13.00)
World No.12 Sam Burns is our top pick this week as he ticks all of the boxes. He is a fantastic putter, one of the best in the world in fact. He ranks 10th over the last two PGA Tour seasons in SG: Putting and brings great course form into the event, having finished 7th in his last two trips to Houston.
Scottie Scheffler ($6.50)
Hard to look past the No.2 player in the world this week. Scheffler is a class above the rest of this field and while I won’t be taking him for the win at the lean odds of $6.50, I think he’s an absolute moral for a top 10 finish at 1.90.
Joel Dahmen ($36.00)
Our first dark(er) horse isn’t super low on the betting markets but I think there is still some good value in Joel Dahmem this week. The livewire had a great outing in Houston last season, finishing 5th overall and was solid at the World Wide Technologies Championship last week, finishing 3rd. Ranks highly in one putt percentage this season.
Adam Long ($101)
Back on the Adam Long train this week after a missed cut last week let us down. He has had two good outings at the Houston Open in the past, finishing 11th in both 2021 and 2020. Bouncing back this week with a top 40 finish at $2.05.
Sam Burns Top 20 ($1.83) 5 Units
Scottie Scheffler Top 10 ($1.90) 3 Units
Joel Dahmen Top 30 ($2.15) 3 Units
Adam Long Top 40 ($2.05) 2 Units
Sam Burns to win
$13 (0.5 Units)
