It was a great weekend in golf betting for Before You Bet and fans as we hit on a bunch of different bets in both the PGA Tour and Euro Tour. Russel Henley and Chesson Hadley both saluted for top 10 finishes at good odds while our op pick for the Cazoo Open in Wales in Callum Shinkwin ended up winning the event by four strokes. We’ll look to continue our hot form as we head to TPC Southwind for the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
FedEx St. Jude Championship Betting Tips
TPC Southwind, Memphis, TN
Thursday 11th – Sunday 14th August
The Field
After a bit of a quieter week in terms of field strength at the Wyndham Championship, things are ramped back up this week for the first round of the FedEx Cup. The top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings have booked a ticket into the first event, and just 70 will earn a spot in the field for next weekend’s BMW Championship.
World No.1 Scottie Scheffler headlines the field after a brilliant four-win season saw him finish the year on top of the FedEx Cup standings. Cam Smith, Sam Burns, Xander Schauffelle, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Tony Finau, Justin Thomas, Cameron Young and Sungjae Im.
Some notable names who find themselves right around the top 70 bubble include Marc Leishman, Gary Woodland, Daniel Berger and Adam Scott.
The Course
TPC Southwind
Par 70
7,200 Yards
TPC Southwind has been the host of the St. Jude Championship, or one of the many different names it has had, since all the way back in 1989. The tournament was added to the FedEx Cup playoffs roster in 2011, but taken off in 2018 due to the tour cutting the placourse pyoffs from four events to three. It is back this year in place of the Northern Trust, and there will no doubt be many golfers keen to get back to TPC Southwind.
The course plays as a Par 70 at just over 7,200 yards and provides a solid all-round test for golfers, as most TPC sanctioned courses do. The course was remodelled in 2004 to add extra bunkers, trees and the fairways were narrowed to make it more PGA Tour appropriate. The course has consistently ranked as one of the most challenging in both driving accuracy and greens in regulations since the 2004 remodel.
Betting Tips
Matthew Fitzpatrick
(Win $21 at Ladbrokes - 0.5 Units)
(Top 20 $1.88 at Ladbrokes - 4 Units)
Fitzpatrick will be looking to cap off a stellar season which saw him claim his first PGA Tour victory, and what a big one it was at the U.S. Open. He has played well at TPC Southwind in the past, racking up two top ten finishes in his last three trips there and never having missed a cut.
Has only played twice since his U.S. Open win, but was solid in both outings with a T6 at the Scottish Open before finishing T21 at The Open Championship.
Billy Horschel
(Win $41 at Ladbrokes - 0.5 Units)
(Top 20 $2.63 at Ladbrokes - 2 Units)
FedEx Cup Playoffs has traditionally been where Horschel has come to life in the past. He has some great finishes at TPC Southward in recent memory, finishing top 10 in five of his last nine trips there. He has made the cut in all nine of those events and is coming off a couple of decent results at the The Open Championship (T21) and the Wyndham Championship (T27).
Corey Conners
(Win $51 at Ladbrokes - 0.3 Units)
(Top $1.75 at Ladbrokes - 4 Units)
If you are hunting consistency from one of the lower ranked guys in the betting market, look no further than Corey Connors. The Canadian has made the cut in 17/22 PGA Tour events this season including impressive finishes at The Masters (T6), the Canadian Open (T6) and the World Matchplay (3rd).
Has been solid at TPC Southwind, making the cut in all four of his most recent trips to Memphis.
Chez Reavie
(Win $101 at Ladbrokes - 0.1 Units)
(Top 40 $2.70 at Ladbrokes - 3 Units)
Reavie is just a few weeks removed from a win at the Barracuda Championship and has sneakily put together one of the most impressive resumes at TPC Southwind in all golf over recent years. He has played the St. Jude event six times since the 2013 season, has made the cut in all six events and has never finished lower than 27th.
