A-League Round 18 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Wellington Phoenix
Sunday 12th March, 5.05pm (AEDT)
Brisbane continues to struggle with just the one win in their previous five matches, whereas Wellington has been on a strong run which has seen them rise to 6th in the standings with games in hand.
The gulf in the sides was demonstrated when they last met just a few weeks ago, Wellington getting up 3-0 that day.
The results in clashes before that were generally split with the theme being low scoring affairs.
Brisbane is scheduled to host here, a role they enjoy having won their last two home matches.
This leaves me torn as I can see the Roar turning up for this one, a hunch that the bookies back me on.
Despite that, I’ll back history to repeat with a draw.
Perth Glory vs Sydney FC
Saturday 12th March, 7.05pm (AEDT)
Perth began its dream run of home matches with a disappointing loss to Adelaide United, keeping it stranded down at the foot of the table.
Usually the prospect of playing Sydney FC in such circumstances would be intimidating to say the least but the powerhouse club has shown vulnerability of late.
The Sky Blues have lost five league matches in a row, relying on an AFC Champions League preliminary fixture to get themselves back on the winners list.
The away side clearly has a better squad on paper though and I’m backing them to extend Perth’s woes.
Macarthur FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday 12th March, 7.45pm (AEDT)
Western Sydney Wanderers will travel to Macarthur on a high, having knocked off rivals Sydney FC 2-0 in the derby. On the other hand, Macarthur’s trip south to Melbourne was ultimately fruitless, the Bulls going down to both Victory and City.
As such, Macarthur sits on the edge of the finals places and will be desperate to give themselves more breathing room.
The going won’t be easy against an improved Wanderers side, who have made progress in their time under Mark Rudan.
A home crowd will boost Macarthur here, as will the fact they have never lost to the Wanderers in the league.
As such, Macarthur is the logical play here.
