Melbourne City vs Sydney FC
AAMI Park, Sunday 27th June, 5:05pm (AEST)
These two have been the best two teams throughout the regular season and are worthy combatants in the Grand Final. Melbourne City in particular have been the standout team this year, racking up a 15-4-7 record throughout the regular season and recording a comfortable 2-0 win in the semi-final to move through to their 2nd ever A-League Grand Final.
Sydney FC had a bit of a slow start to the season but came home with a wet sail, winning their last five games of the regular season to pinch 2nd place off the Central Coast Mariners before beating out Adelaide United 2-1 in their semi-final. Sydney FC are no strangers to the A-League Grand Final, making their seventh trip to the big game this season, having won the trophy in five of their six attempts so far.

It’s hard to look past how good Melbourne City have been this season. They had a slow end to the year, winning just one of their last five games in the regular season, but that form can be attributed to the fact that they already had top place on the ladder wrapped up and were in cruise control as they rested for the important finals campaign.
Sydney are without doubt the most successful team in A-League history and will probably be more comfortable heading into the big game, but their road to the final one was definitely tougher than their opponents. They spent most of the season hovering around the midfield of the ladder before a strong finish to the year saw them scramble up into the coveted top two.
Both sides will be without three of their most important players due to Socceroos selection, with Melbourne missing Jamie Maclaren, Connor Metcalfe and Curtis Good while Sydney FC will need to find replacements for Andrew Redmayne, Rhyan Grant and Ryan McGowan.
Melbourne City haven’t lost to Sydney FC in regluar time to Sydney in their last four games. In that span they have picked up two wins and two draws for a combined goal aggregate of 6-3. They start as slight favourites and will have a home field advantage at AAMI Park in front of what is reported to be around 14,000 fans allowed to enter. Back them to win their first A-League Championship here.
