NFL Week 8 Betting Tips
Miami Dolphins at Baltimore Ravens (Friday 11.25am AEST)
Interesting matchup to open the round on Friday morning as the Dolphins travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens. The AFC East is really competitive coming into this game, with New England leading the pack at 5-2 and Buffalo and Miami trailing at 4-2. With the Patriots bye week coming up, a win for Miami here will put real pressure on New England ahead of their first clash for the year in a few weeks’ time.
Baltimore sit 2nd in the AFC North currently two games behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and will need a good back half of the season if they wish to challenge for the remaining wild card spots in the AFC. Both teams are struggling mightily to find any offence this season. They sit last and second last for total yards per game and are both in the bottom third for total points on the season so far. Miami, in particular, have only scored 92 points through their 6 games.
We think the total points line of 37.5 might be a touch high for this game. Both teams are in the top half of the league in terms of points allowed per game and the offensive problems for both teams are well documented.
TIP: Total points UNDER 37.5 - $1.92 at Sportsbet
Los Angeles Chargers at New England Patriots (Monday 4am AEST)
Four of the Patriots seven games so far, this season have been at Gillette Stadium and they’ll get another home game this Monday morning against the red-hot LA Chargers. After going 0-4 to start the season, the Chargers have won their last three games, the last of which was a massive shutout win against the Broncos.
The two teams haven’t faced off since 2014 but since the Brady/Belichick era began the Patriots hold a commanding 6-2 record against the Chargers. The two home losses New England have suffered this year only slightly dampens what is one of the most amazing stats in NFL football as the Patriots. Since Brady took over in the early 2000s, the Patriots have only lost 19 of 125 games at Gillette Stadium and looked to be back in their groove on the weekend with a dominant 23-7 win over the Falcons.
The Patriots defence looks to have turned a corner since their woeful start to the season which makes the 7.5 line at home seem a little small.
TIP: New England -7.5 - $1.99 at Ladbrokes
Pittsburgh Steelers at Detroit Lions (Monday 11.30am AEST)
Pittsburgh are arguably the most inconsistent team to hold a 5-2 record throughout the last few seasons in the NFL. They have looked shaky at best in some of their wins and have been beaten handily by some pretty average teams in the Bears and Jaguars throughout the last month.
They face off against the Lions this weekend who whilst only maintaining a 3-3 record, have been able to put up some serious points against quality opposition this year. The Lions average 26.8 points this season which is good for 8th in the league and will be at home for this clash.
The Steelers offence looked back to near its best last weekend against the Bengals with Big Ben, Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell all firing. The 45-point line seems in danger here.
TIP: Total points OVER 45 - $1.92 at Sportsbet
Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs (Tuesday 11.30am AEST)
As good as their defence has been throughout the last few years and to start this season, the Denver Broncos have struggled to find anything on offence the last few weeks, capped off by a shutout loss to the Chargers in Week 7. They haven’t scored over 16 points in their last four games while QB Trevor Siemian has thrown 3 interceptions in the last two weeks.
After starting the season 5-0 Kansas has lost its last two games to tough competition in Pittsburgh and Oakland. They get another division game here but will welcome the return to Arrowhead Stadium for the game against the Broncos. Kansas score a massive 29.6 points per game this season which is good for 2nd in the league.
The Broncos defence is arguably the best in the league, however, coming off a shutout loss we are sceptical over their ability to put up enough points to win over arguably the best offence in the league. Especially at home, we think the Chiefs should be able to get back on the winners list here.
TIP: Kansas City -7.5 - $1.99 at CrownBet
