After a few bad weekends in a row, some punters were calling for my head going into Week 9 of the NFL season. However, a decent 3-1 performance should keep them at bay for another week as we look toward the upcoming weekend’s slate and give our tips for the key games in Week 10 of the NFL below.
NFL Week 10 Betting Tips
Seattle Seahakws at Arizona Cardinals (Friday 12.25pm AEDT)
What is usually a great matchup between NFC West rivals has lost some of it’s sting this season after a broken arm to Arizona starting QB Carson Palmer will see him miss at least eight weeks. The Seahawks relinquished top spot in the division after falling to the Redskins on the weekend while Arizona were able to defeat a pretty lacklustre San Francisco team to move to 4-4 on the season.
Drew Stanton is starting for the injured Palmer and while he did throw two TD’s on the weekend, the Arizona offence has switched to a run heavy style of play, with Adrian Peterson rushing for 159 yards on 37 carries against the 49ers. Seattle are a middle of the pack team against the rush, allowing 109 yards per game but where they really excel is in the red zone. They allow just 18.6 points per game which is good for 5th in the league.
Should be a tough game here for Stanton and co. even at home. The Seattle defence is really well rounded and with Arizona missing their two best offensive players in Palmer and David Johnson for the foreseeable future the $1.42 price tag seems about right for Seattle.
TIP: Seattle -5.5 - $1.92 at Sportsbet
New England Patriots at Denver Broncos (Monday 12.30pm AEDT)
The Patriots should be fresh after a bye week here and they’ll need it as they take on one of the harder tasks in football, travelling to Denver to take on the Broncos. Although the Denver defence has looked like a shell of its former self of late. They have lost their last four games in a row and been absolutely blown out in each, culminating in a 51-23 loss to the Eagles on the weekend.
While the Patriots defence was looking just as bad at the start of the season, they looked to have turned it around in their last few games, allowing 14, 17, 7 and 13 points in their last month of football. Their offence is still as damaging as ever and with new threats Rex Burkhead, Brandin Cooks and Mike Gillislee in toe Tom Brady’s offence should be hard to handle here.
The Broncos have a 2-5-1 record against the spread this season which is good for the 5th worst in the league. The Patriots start as 7 point favourites here and given the Broncos have lost their last four games by this margin at least we like the away team to cover.
TIP: New England Patriots -7 - $1.93 at Ladbrokes
Los Angeles Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars (Monday 5am AEDT)
Believe it or not, the Jacksonville Jaguars boast the stingiest defence in all of football going into Week 10. They allow just 14 points per game on average and already boast some good wins over the likes of Houston, Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Their schedule has been one of the easier ones in the league however, with games against the Jets, Bengals, and Colts already under their belt.
The Chargers started 0-4 in what many were thinking would be Phillip Rivers last season at the helm in Los Angeles, however, they rallied to win the next three games before going down to the Patriots in their last match. They’ll also be on the back of a bye week here which should have them feeling fresh for the cross-country trip to Florida.
The Chargers defence relies heavily on the pass with Phil Rivers averaging 35 pass attempts per game this season. Jacksonville has proven themselves to be the best defence in the league against the pass this season, allowing just 156 yards through the air per game. They are also the 5th best team against the spread with a 5-3 record so we like them to cover a four-point line here.
TIP: Jacksonville -4 - $1.92 at CrownBet
Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons (Monday 8.25am AEDT)
Dallas were big winners over the Kansas City Chiefs on the weekend to extend their winning streak to three games on the back of some outstanding performances by running back Ezekiel Elliot. After starting the season 5-0, the Chiefs have lost two of their last three games and now sit behind the Steelers and the Patriots in the AFC Conference standings.
It’s still unknown whether Elliot will suit up for the game against the Falcons, with the star running back having to face a panel this Thursday to decide whether or not he will be allowed to continue to play while his court trial for domestic violence is sorted out. However, with the Falcons recent run of form, it might not matter too much.
Atlanta have lost four of their last five games, beating only the Jets in that stretch and have really struggled to find the offence that got them to a Super Bowl last season. They are the fourth worst team in the league against the spread with just a 2-6 record and have started as 3 point favourites against the Cowboys. Roll the dice here and assume Elliot plays in which we like the Cowboys to cover.
TIP: Dallas + 3 - $1.87 at Sportsbet
