NFL Week 6 Betting Tips
Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers (Friday 14th October 11:25am)
The San Diego Chargers will host their AFC West rivals the Denver Broncos for Thursday Night Football. The Chargers are making a habit of blowing fourth quarter leads. First it was against Kansas City and then it was New Orleans and the latest (close) loss came at the hands of Oakland. The most relevant and alarming stat against San Diego is their record against AFC West opponents. In their last ten games they are 0-10.
Meanwhile the Denver Broncos will be trying to bounce back, after suffering their first loss of the season to the Atlanta Falcons. Denver has made the trip to San Diego without head coach Gary Kubiak. After suffering a complex migraine, general manager John Elway said “Gary needs to concentrate on Gary this week”.
Recipe for Disaster
The main reason the Chargers are losing close games are “fumbles”. It’s not like the Chargers are getting blown away by teams. They are turning the ball over at crucial times and losing close games. The Chargers have already compiled eight lost fumbles this year.
Forcing fumbles just happens to be the Broncos speciality. In fact, Von Miller has recovered four fumbles himself this season. Miller and the Denver defense will have a field day against this jittery offense.
Prediction: Denver 27 San Diego 17
Tip: Denver Broncos at the line (-3.0) - $1.80 at Sportsbet
Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers (Monday 17th October 7:25am)
The Green Bay Packers host the Dallas Cowboys in one of the most intriguing games of the season.
It’s so-far so-good for the Dallas Cowboys. After losing Tony Romo in the preseason, rookie quarterback Dak Prescott has stepped in and played the role of “back up” to perfection.
The Cowboys currently sit atop the NFC East, one game clear of Philadelphia and Washington. A big part of their success has been their ability to run the ball. The combination of the best offensive line in the league + a very productive running back (Ezekiel Elliot) = leading the league in rushing yards (155.2 yards per game).
Somethings gotta give
The Cowboys might own the best rushing offense in the league but the Packers own the best rushing defense. The Packers have been lights out when it comes to stopping the run. They are allowing just 42.8 rushing yards per game (ranked 1st). The Packers defense has been holding up their end of the bargain, while the offense has looked stale. In particular Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay are ranked 27th in passing yards and 25th in total yards.
Prediction: Dallas 20 Green Bay 23
Tip: Total Points Under 47.5 - $1.87 at Sportsbet
Tip: Dallas Cowboys at the line (+4.0) - $2.02 at Sportsbet
Atlanta Falcons at Seattle Seahawks (Monday 17th October 7:25am)
This could be a preview of the NFC Championship game. Last week the Atlanta Falcons stunned the Denver Broncos and now they will face the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field. Two of the toughest road games (back to back) but the Falcons just keep on winning.
Not only are the Atlanta Falcons winning games, they are covering the spread. This tells me that even the sportsbooks are undervaluing them.
The Falcons own the most productive offense in the league. They are ranked 1st in passing yards, total yards and points per game. It’s all thanks to veteran quarterback Matt Ryan who deserves MVP consideration. Ryan has accumulated 1740 yards and 12 touchdowns in just five games. He may have his work cut out for him against this Seattle defense!
The Seattle Seahawks are coming off the bye week and trying to protect their home field. On paper the Seahawks defensive stats look amazing. They are ranked 1st in total yards allowed (264.0 yards), 3rd in points allowed (13.5) and 2nd in passing yards allowed (183.8) all very impressive. But if we look closer at the quality of offenses they have faced (Dolphins, 49ers, Jets and Rams) then it might be wise to ignore those defensive numbers.
It might be late to jump on the Atlanta bandwagon. But better late than never. There is also wind and rain forecast for Sunday in Seattle.
Prediction: Atlanta 23 Seattle 20
Tip: Atlanta Falcons at the line (+6.5) - $1.92 at Sportsbet
Tip: Total Points Under 45.5 - $1.92 at Sportsbet
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans (Monday 17th October 11:30am)
Sunday Night Football is an all AFC South battle between the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. A win for either team could put them on top of the division.
This division is W I D E open
As terrible as the Indianapolis Colts have played this year, a win against the Houston Texans on Sunday could turn their season around. Andrew Luck continues to take the high road in regards to getting better protection and personnel issues on the offense. Luck also continues to be the only shining light for the Colts, passing for 1469 yards and 10 touchdowns in his last five games.
It’s not only the Colts offensive line that is struggling. The defense can’t stop anything! They are allowing 410 yards per game (ranked 30th) and almost 30 points per game (ranked 30th).
If they can’t stop Brock Osweiler Sunday night they won’t stop anybody this season. This game has a shoot-out type feeling.
Prediction: Indianapolis 31 Houston 28
Tip: Total Points Over 46.0 - $1.88 at Sportsbet
New York Jets at Arizona Cardinals (Tuesday 18th October 11:30am)
Monday Night Football at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona. The New York Jets are desperately searching for their second win of the season. Meanwhile the Arizona Cardinals will welcome back their number one quarterback Carson Palmer, after he missed week 5 with a concussion.
The Jets are 1-4. However, I am going to defend them for one second. So far the Jets have had home games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Cincinnati Bengals (two very good teams). On the road they have faced Pittsburgh, Kansas City and Buffalo (all very tough road games).
If the Jets can some-how get passed the Cardinals, they might be able to save their season as the schedule looks much more favourable from here on out.
Arizona will be trying to avoid a third loss in front of a home crowd. Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald should be able to exploit the Jets (secondary) as they are giving up over 302 passing yards per game (ranked 31st). On the other side the Jets can exploit an Arizona run defense that is giving up 118.2 yards rushing per game (ranked 23rd). This should be a high scoring affair.
Prediction: New York 24 Arizona 31
Tip: Total Points Over 46.0 - $1.92 at Sportsbet
