AFL Round 16 Preview & Betting Tips
Western Bulldogs vs Fremantle
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, July 1st, Marvel Stadium
Two sides who have been a little bit enigmatic this season will face off in one of the two early Saturday games in Round 16, with the Western Bulldogs welcoming the Fremantle Dockers to Marvel Stadium.
The Western Bulldogs had the bye last weekend and will be hoping to avoid the bizarre trend of teams losing their first game back. Prior to their week off they had a solid win against North Melbourne which put an end to a three-game slide.
One of the key areas of improvement needed for the Bulldogs is limiting opposition scores. They started the season well in this area when averaging only 63.4 points against for the first 10 games, however that number has increased to 94 per game across their past four, which would be a big worry for coach Luke Beveridge.
Fremantle had their bye in Round 12 and have had three games back in which they’ve gone 1-2. They were impressive winners at home against the Bombers last weekend to bounce back from consecutive defeats. They’ve now won five of their last seven outings and have reignited their finals aspirations as a result.
Pleasingly for the Dockers, Andrew Brayshaw has recaptured his form from last season and is absolutely flying at the minute, forming a dynamic partnership in the midfield with Caleb Serong. On top of that, superstar Nat Fyfe is getting better by the week and is starting to look like his old self.
The trio of players mentioned above will have to be on top of their game on Saturday afternoon if they’re to put up a fight against the Bulldogs. The Dockers have only won one of their road meetings against top eight sides this season, and that was a narrow win over the Demons a month ago.
With that said, the Bulldogs best is still a couple of levels above the Dockers best in my opinion, and their chances of winning are clearly increased with home ground advantage on their side.
I’ll be backing the Bulldogs to cover the small spread for a couple of units.

Western Bulldogs to Win – For the reasons mentioned above I think they just win this game. Happy to include them into my SGM.
Luke Ryan 20+ Disposals – Usually the man involved with switches across half back. Gets a lot of cheap and easy ball and should get to 20+ disposals again here.
Marcus Bontempelli 25+ Disposals – Having probably the best season of his career. Fremantle don’t have anyone that can go with him due to his size. Gets plenty of the ball again in this one.
Rory Lobb 1+ Goal – Probably gets the Dockers third best defender. He should have a clear matchup advantage against his old side.
Same Game Multi odds: $3.50
