Marketa Vondrousova vs Jana Fett

When the odds came out for this one I must say that I was a little bit surprised. Now there are a couple of reasons for this.
Jana Fett can be a little on the inconsistent side, but she is someone who certainly has the ability to go toe to toe with the majority of the tour at her absolute best. The 28 year old is ranked 134 in the world currently, and made her way through qualifying with three very strong performances. She has broken into the Top 100 before, with a career high ranking of 97, however form and fitness issues have plagued her over the journey. Australian’s may remember her for a classic match-up with Caroline Wozniacki on Rod Laver Arena in the 2nd round of the 2018 Australian Open. Fett won the first set, and led *5-1 before losing 5-7. Wozniacki went on to win the Australian Open that year.
It took a little while for Fett to get over that loss, however I have been impressed with her most recent form. She can be aggressive, and redline for periods, and is more than capable in this match-up with Vondrousova. We last saw Vondrousova on court in Adelaide earlier this week, where she left the court in tears having injured herself while leading against Diana Shnaider. Although Vondrousova won Wimbledon in 2023, her recent tennis has been plagued by wrist issues. Adelaide was her first tournament back since Wimbledon 2024, and she defeated Pavlyuchenkova in round 1 in a tight 3 set match before her retirement against Shnaider.
There was some conjecture over the injury suffered by Vondrousova, however she did seem to be walking with a slight limp in some behind-the-scenes footage from Melbourne earlier today. With limited form and time on court, plus the new fitness question marks, I cannot have the Czech at $1.03 in this match-up. More markets may come out closer to match start, but for now I will take Fett at the moneyline as a starting point.
