2024 NRL Round 4 Preview & Betting Tips
Gold Coast Titans vs The Dolphins
Cbus Super Stadium – Saturday 30th March – 7:35pm (AEST)
Match Preview
It’s only 3 rounds into the competition (and 2 games for the Titans) but there is a genuine sense that the Titans season cannot get worse than the 32-0 loss they suffered to the Bulldogs last week. That was until news broke that Tino Fa’asuamaleaui would be out for the remainder of the year with an ACL injury. It was an insipid display from a team who has promised more; they were directionless in finding answers to questions posed by their opponents. Their lack of class was evident in the fact they only averaged 7m per carry, had just 1 line break and missed 42 tackles. Most of those areas come down to effort.
The Dolphins had a Bye last week following their impressive 38-0 victory over the Dragons in Round 2. Everything went right for them in that match and once they gained momentum, they were too much to stop. Individual displays of brilliance actively contributed to their success and their talent was on display. A high level of execution is key to their success; they completed at 92% and averaged 9.9m per carry. They still have improvement left in them for the weeks ahead, but they will take plenty of confidence away from that effort, especially considering how poor they were at times in their Round 1 match against the Cowboys.
Match Prediction
The Titans are (somehow) given a chance of winning this match with the odds ($2.15 vs $1.70) far closer than the form of each team deserves at this stage of the season. Perhaps the return of Campbell and Fifita for them is expected to yield a positive outcome. They will need to contribute heavily to this game if the Titans are to overturn their performance and effort from last week.
The Dolphins are well placed to win this game; they are basically unchanged from Round 2 and will bring confidence into this game. They are also yet to lose to the Titans, who have a poor record at home (44%). The line is carefully set at 2.5 points. Both their games last year were decided by a 2-point margin. Regardless of the winner, there is every chance that this game will be a tight contest yet again.
There is only a small amount of value in invest in either team to win by less than 2 converted tries but given the uncertainty of each so far this season, it might be the ‘safer’ option, with this bet to anchor a multi bet over the weekend. There are preferred options to invest upon in Round 4.
Either Team By 12.5 Points or less
