Sha Tin Racing Tips: Sunday, September 13th
Sha Tin Race 1 (Market)
We kick things off with a 1200m race on the All-Weather track and these races are always tricky. We have a few at the top of the market here which come from stables that don’t have a particularly good record on the dirt, and I think there’s three runners here at big odds which we can have something small on. (1) Goldie Flanker is from the stable of Manfred Man, who is notorious for having a great record with his runners over 1200m on the dirt. This horse has five wins and five placings over this track and distance, and although his first up record is poor, he’s only had 10 weeks off. He’s at $12. (4) Gold Comet is $31. He makes his debut today. He’s had two trials leading in, running 2nd in the first one and then 7th. (6) War Lord is from the John Size yard and Chad Schofield takes the ride. He’s been well-beaten in every race since he won on debut but this is his first start on the dirt. His breeding is full of USA horses so perhaps he will be more suited on the all-weather track. He draws 1 and is currently $23. No huge bets but just specking those three at the odds.
Value: (4) Gold Comet $31 & (6) War Lord $23
Sha Tin Race 3 (Market)
Another little spec bet here with (6) Star Present each way at $8.00. Interestingly, this is a mare, which is very rare to see in Hong Kong. She had one start for the Yung stable where she was beaten about 10L but she’s changed stable to David Hayes now and her trials for him have been significantly better than anything she showed previously. Fair to say this is a big stable upgrade and Hayes looks to have her going much better. This isn’t an easy race for her but she’s drawn midfield to get a decent run and is worth having something on at the odds.
(6) Star Present E/W
$8.00
Sha Tin Race 4 (Market)
(4) Soccer Master completely turned his form around at the end of last season, putting together consecutive wins over this track and distance. His most recent one in particular was very good and suggested he was still capable of winning more. He remains in Class 5 today and even though he carries more weight again, he should be going very close to making it a winning hattrick. (3) Winwin Thirtythree is yet to win from 18 starts but he drops into Class 5 and gets his chance today.
Sha Tin Race 6 (Market)
(1) Sonic Fighter resumes today dropping in class with Zac Purton booked for Paul O’Sullivan. That looks a real set up to me and they’ve given him three trials to have him ready first up. This is his pet track and distance so he’s worth backing each way here at $9.00. (8) Mighty Power is the other one I’ll be backing. He’s another horse that’s been transferred from the Yung stable to David Hayes. He’s only got one win from 22 starts so it’s hard to be confident but he’s another horse that looks to have improved significantly with the stable change. His two trials have been good, he’ll need a good ride from barrier 13 but finds a nice race.
Also backing: (8) Mighty Power $6.00
