Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Sha Tin on Sunday, October 4th.
We're back at Sha Tin on Sunday for another 10 race card in Hong Kong! After tipping four winners from six races on Thursday, Tim Geers has provided his best bets of Sunday's meeting below!
Sha Tin Racing Tips: Sunday, October 4th
Best Bet: Race 9 – (11) Leap of Faith
Next Best: Race 6 – (1) High Rev
We start the day off with a class 5 over 1800m. There’s two horses I’ll be backing here. (7) Great Smart was caught wide first up and boxed on well to be beaten less than 2L. Big jockey change with Moreira taking over from Chadwick. The horse has won second up in the past and his only prior start over this track and distance was a win. Being drawn wide over this track and distance isn’t such a huge issue so the barrier isn’t much of a concern for me. (12) Wicker comes into this first up. He’s won just once from 19 starts so it’s hard to be confident, but Karis Teetan rode him to his only victory and he takes the ride first up here. That win was in this class over his same track and distance, and he carried more weight. He finds a winnable race. Taking $3.75 and $8.00.
This looks a complete set up job here and I’m very keen to be with (1) High Rev. He won four races in six starts this time last year, but as is often the case in Hong Kong, he reached a mark that made it hard for him to win again. He’s been racing in Class 2 for the majority of his starts since then, but he drops back into Class 3 at his first run for the new season, and Zac Purton is booked straight away. Zac hasn’t ridden him since the last time he won, so that’s a very strong sign, and the one-eyed blinker is replaced by the full set of blinkers as well. Everything points to him going very close today.
I think (1) Party Everyday can turn the tables on (2) Skyey Surpreme today. Skyey Supreme jumped straight to the front from barrier 1, got an easy lead and bolted in last start, while Party Everyday jumped slow, settled at the back and then pulled up lame after the race. We get a complete barrier reversal today with Party Everyday drawn 1 and Skyey Supreme drawn 14. We have seen Party Everyday settle closer to the speed from a good draw previously so hopefully he jumps with them and can settle handy. If he does, I think he can reverse the result.
Best of the day here with the Size/Moreira runner (11) Leap Of Faith, who resumed with a strong win over track and distance in Class 4. He jumped from barrier 14 that day and carried top weight but he was too good in any case. He rises to Class 3 now and draws much better in barrier 6. We often see these Size horses just continue winning and I think that’s once again the case today. (13) True Legend gets the big bonus of drawing barrier 1, while (10) Great Treasure is knocking on the door, so the market has it about right. Taking $2.50 for Leap Of Faith as I think he will start closer to even money.
