SHA TIN BEST BETS
RACE 2
I think they might have the market a little bit wrong here. In my opinion, Superich should be favourite rather than Time To Celebrate. That could prove very wrong but if it weren’t for Superich’s failure in the Classic Mile last start, he’d definitely be favourite here. And there was good reason for that failure, with the horse pulling up lame in the right foreleg and with a restricted action in both forelegs the day following the race. He’s a good horse so I’m prepared to forgive him for that and if he were to produce his best form here, he’d win.
RACE 5
Chung Wah Spirit looks one of the best of the day to my eye. He’s been beaten 2.5L and 2L in his past two starts in Class 3 and today he drops into Class 4 for the first time since arriving in Hong Kong two years ago. Zac Purton rode him in a recent trial and takes over from Eddy Lai today – jockey changes don’t get any bigger than that. Draws barrier 3 and should prove awfully hard to beat. Remarkable is a good dirt-track horse and will be in the finish.
RACE 6
I Do finds a very winnable race today and provided he does everything right and gets even luck at the right time, he should be winning. Two starts ago he missed the start when finishing 3rd and last start he drew barrier 14 and still ran well to finish 2nd. Drawn much better today in barrier 3 and has trialled well enough since that last run, Purton sticks with him and he has absolutely no excuses if he can’t win this.
