Sha Tin Racing Tips: Sunday December 18th
Sha Tin is back in action today as we’re presented with an interesting 10-race card. There are plenty of Ex-Australian imports making their local debuts as well as career debutants bringing plenty of interesting trial form into the earlier races on the card. This is a key meeting to take blackbookers out of if that’s something you’re interested in as there’ll no doubt be plenty of future winners to come out of today’s meeting.
Race 3
I’m anticipating a decent price for (9) Ka Ying Warrior in this race given Excellent Fighter has won all 3 of his trials leading up to his debut. I don’t think there’s much between these horses and I believe Ka Ying Warrior has been covered up in his trials slightly. He can win this under Zac Purton and is a great e/w price.
(7) Excellent Fighter is the horse mentioned above who is undefeated at the trials leading into this debut. He’ll have support as he has already and should be tough to beat but his ability is exposed and at the end of the day it is only trial form.
(13) Valhalla is a member of the raced brigade which gives him an inherent advantage here. He may be able to capitalise on having fitness and race experience to get into the finish.
(9) Ka Ying Warrior e/w
$6.00/$2.10 (1 unit)
Race 6
(3) Cape Breton was phenomenal on debut running 3rd from back in the field. He’s sure to take improvement out of that run and has to be considered one of the main chances in this race. There are plenty of horses that look talented but may be lacking the race fitness and experience.
(11) Dream Pursuer is a flashy ex-australian galloper who has demonstrated good ability in his trials so far. Zac Purton is on which is a positive sign and I expect the horse to perform well in his local debut.
(6) Capital Legend is another ex-australian who makes his local debut and trialled closely behind some talented horses in Whizz Kid and Healthy Happy last time. Stable clearly have some opinion of him to trial him amongst that talent and I’ll be interested to see what he brings to raceday today.
(3) Cape Breton e/w
$5.50/$2.15 (0.5 units)
Race 8
(2) Whizz Kid’s best will win this race and he’s got a 4.5kg claim from a good draw in gate 7 to help him achieve somewhere near his best. I think he’s more likely to win this race than his price suggests so I’m keen to have a play in this event.
(1) Trillion Win is returning here after bleeding in his first run this season. It’ll be interesting to see how he goes here as his best is sure to be competitive.
(11) Power Koepp has the advantages of a nice light weight and a good barrier draw down the straight here. Silvestre De Sousa just needs to give him a squeeze out of the gate so he doesn’t get too far back and he can be right in the finish.
(2) Whizz Kid win
$3.00 (2 units)
Race 9
(2) Man Star didn’t fire a shot on the wet surface last time but was supported as a $6 chance. If you forgive that performance anticipating a bounce back on a drier track this time the horse has to be a solid play at massive e/w odds. He’s super consistent at this trip in this grade and can run well.
(6) Midori Beauty is a talented horse but can be difficult to ride as he regularly plays up pre-race and mid-race. If Zac can get him under control he’s bound to be a huge danger here but there’s an element of risk if you back him that he’ll do something wrong.
(3) Fiery Diamond is looking for 4 on the trot. He’s found some stellar form lately and can continue his winning ways here with a bit of luck. Obviously the handicapper will eventually catch up to this horse, the question is when?
(2) Man Star e/w
$19/$4.6 (0.5 units)
