Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 13th
Best Bet: Race 6 - (12) Regal Riffle
Best Value Bet: Race 5 - (9) Teramia
Very, very keen on the $8.50 available for (9) Teramia here. I think that's a terrific each way bet. She's had one career start, which was a dominant win at Geelong, where she came from back in the field to run home over the top of her opposition to record a 2.25L victory. That was on soft ground so she'll handle conditions. She ran the second-fastest final 600m of the day and the sixth-fastest final 400m and 200m of the day. Tony and Calvin McEvoy have a terrific record with their runners on the Hillside course, with five winners from 16 starters this season. This is their only runner of the day and I suspect she will start much shorter than the $8.50 currently on offer. Respect (18) Cordilla IF she gains a start.
Two-horse play for me here and you can back them both if you wish, or back one and save on the other. (12) Regal Riffle is an outstanding bet at $6.00. She's had six career starts for a win and three 2nds. She started favourite first up last prep at this track over slightly further and was beaten 1.25L, but went on to win at Geelong and run 2nd at Flemington. She returns from a spell today and her recent jumpouts have been excellent. She's shown great speed to lead both, has travelled beautifully and been strong to the line without being pressured. Mick Price and Mick Kent Jr have had 25 runners for seven winners here at Sandown Hillside this season and this is their only runner of the day. She should put herself right up on speed from barrier 2 and prove very hard to beat at a good price. I think her main (only) danger is (3) Hapaira. I was keen on her last week but she was scratched and saved for this. She's had two runs back from a spell and comes off a solid win at Echuca on soft ground. She's won her only previous third up run, Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have a 21% strike rate at Sandown Hillside and Teo Nugent takes a helpful 2kg off with his claim. She's another that should roll forward and land on speed. It's a big field but I'm pretty confident one of those will be winning.
