Sandown Hillside hosts midweek racing on Wednesday with eight races on the card for punters to dissect.
The track will be rated Good but has a slight chance of a downgrade if we get rain on Tuesday. Race one gets underway at 2:30pm, with the last of eight concluding at 6:30pm.
I have had a look and picked out my four best bets of the program!
Sandown Racing Tips – Wednesday, March 29th 2023
Race 1
(1) Tacito looks the one here and may get punters off to a good start to the day. The Showtime/Without Saying colt has drawn the inside barrier for Team Hayes and Michael Dee should be able to control proceedings after the two-year-old settled on pace and smashed them at Murray Bridge last start. That was on a Good track and the stable will be hoping there is no rain about on Tuesday for this one.
(2) Freakofnature has won here before and Blake Shinn takes the ride this time after an unlucky 8th at Flemington last time.
(3) Birks was 2nd on debut at Pakenham but was 4.5L behind them. I can't see him winning but with Peter Moody and Carleen Hefel on his side, he has to be included.
(5) Magic Mogul is having his first start after running a good 2nd in a Cranbourne jumpout on March 6. In good hands (Griffiths & De kock) and will be one to watch.
(1) Tacito - WIN
$1.80 (4 Units)
Race 6
*SCRATCHED* (14) Tobyasure is fitter than most of these and will go around at each-way odds here. He was unplaced (4th) last start but was only 1L off the winner at this track on March 15 and he has won over this distance before. Before that he was unlucky not to win when 2nd at Wangaratta. If he gets the right run, he goes very close.
(15) Royal Hard Hat is a last start Pakenham winner and the Greg Eurell stable is going well at the moment. He has already won 2 races on Good tracks and will be on pace again.
(13) Postwick is fresh after a 6-month spell but is in the right hands being from the Waller stable. Has trialed okay at his latest Flemington jumpouts.
(11) Ebony King has drawn the inside and did win well at this track when starting $1.60 on March 8. May get buried away which is the concern.
Race 7
(3) Loco was far too good at Pakenham last start after coming from off the pace and I think this track will suit his racing pattern. His debut win was on Good surface and over this distance and the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr team are in good form. Has trialed against some quality types in recent weeks and hasn't been disgraced.
(2) Watadeel is a horse i like but barrier 12 in this race I do not like. He was unlucky behind Bank Maur last start but from the wide alley here, Luke Nolen will have to ride courageously to win.
(4) Cadazio is first up and he has won first up previously. He has raced in Group and Listed company before so the field will be easier this time.
(6) Ivan’s Hero has drawn well in 2 and he has run a 2nd at this track previously. He is on the quick back up after running 4th here last week.
(3) Loco - WIN
$3.80 (2 Units)
Race 8
(14) Seonee gets a 3-kilogram claim with Laura Lafferty on top and is only just getting fitter with recent racing. Lafferty has ridden Seonee previously so will know what to do. The winning Rupert/Mowgli mare got up by a nose on the Lakeside circuit last start and she does have a good 3rd up record as well. The track conditions suit and she has won on this track previously. Will get back a bit but will hook out at the 400m mark.
(2) Saint Bathans has won 3 from his last 10 starts but has started this campaign slowly. I think he can improve here from the inside draw. 1 from 1 at this track.
(8) It’s Tornado Storm led and won last start at Bendigo. Will want the rain to stay away so it remains a dry track.
(12) Convenor is first up from a 6-month spell so will be one to watch. First try here.
(14) Seonee - WIN
$4 (2 Units)
