The Wednesday Twilight Racing timeslot continues with Sandown Hillside side kicking off thoroughbred racing at 3:05pm this week.
There are eight races on the program and the track is predicted to be a Good 4 with spectators viewing in 25 degrees sunshine.
I’ll have a play in the first with Rivaport looking a big chance for the Begg stable. You can find all of my best Sandown tips are listed below. And if you’re looking for a new bookmaker to place your racing bets with, why not try Picklebet?
Sandown Racing Tips – Wednesday, March 15th 2023
Race 1
(2) Rivaport should improve after a first up 6th across the road at Lakeside and with more fitness on her side she should be able to position up nicely for Jordan Childs. The distance rise from 1400m to the mile should suit and with a bit more luck this time she should be top 2. She had a 16-month spell before this campaign and she is obviously ready.
(1) Commodus is the main danger on the back of a good Moe win last start when Craig Newitt gave him a dream ride from barrier 2. He has proven at the mile and likes dry ground.
(3) Defining gets a claim for Maddiso Lloyd and will hold the rails. Sees the track for a second time which is an advantage.
(4) Red on Red is very fit but i would be shocked if he wins.
(2) Rivaport - WIN
$2.50 (2 Units)
Race 3
*SCRATCHED* (4) Helix drops 100m in trip but is racing in an easier race this time. Clinton McDonald has him fitter now being third up and Blake McDougall will ride him on pace again in a race where there doesn't seem to be heaps of early toe. He has won on the Good before and should finish top 2.
(6) Rakomelo comes over from New South Wales after solid efforts and being in the Cummings stable is a plus. He bolted in a Kembla Grange and his Canterbury 4th was when beaten less than 2L. Will likely want the speed on though this time.
(7) Powerful Eagle is first up and has won first up previously. Carleen Hefel hops on for Peter Moody and support is expected.
(2) Ice Pick Nick has been backed to win in recent starts and should be kept safe in the market after getting the jockey claim.
Race 5
(8) South Of Houston has drawn the inside barrier for Blake Shinn after a nine-month let up for the Price & Kent stable. The Deep Field/Soho Secret family was backed to win on debut ($1.50) and she should be more mature this time. She has had a few jumpouts leading into this so she will be fit enough.
(7) Tanto is probably fitter than South of Houston and Damien Lane should give her a gun run from barrier 3. She has won on the Good before and she is third up now.
(5) Berry Bubbly is in an easier race here after running 2nd at The Valley on February 24. That was over the 955m and the extra distance should suit.
(2) Venetian Lass for Matt Cumani drops back to the 1000m after scoring last start over 1100m at Ballarat. She will likely to come from behind again.
(4) Charm Me won well for the Moody stable on debut in a weak Yarra Valley maiden but this is harder.
(8) South of Houston - WIN
$3 (2 Units)
Race 6
(9) Hanaady ran on quite well at Ballarat last start (7th) after getting too far back. She will likely settle closer this time and on a favourable Good track will again run well. She has had three tries here and has been in the money on all occasions, including a win here in 2022. At this track on February 15 he was back and made up many lengths over the last 200m to run 3rd. Connections will want him a little closer in this and if the pace is on, he should run strong to the line again.
(7) Maui will likely settle just in front of Hanaady in the run and should go well as he is one of the fittest horses in the race. This is easier than last start but his 2 runs here have only been fair so far.
(3) Hassletoff was pretty good at Flemington last time and this is easier. The track conditions are ideal and Blake Shinn is on. He has placed 18 times from 30 starts and he may start favourite in this.
(1) Reserve Street is experienced and the eight year old isn't without a chance after winning a Cranbourne trial 2 weeks ago. In leading stable and not the worst.
(9) Hanaady - Each Way
$5.50/$2 (1 Unit)
