Racing returns to Sandown’s Ladbrokes Park on Wednesday with gallopers racing on the Lakeside circuit on what is a predicted Good 4 track.
A twilight start is again here for punters with race one commencing at 3:40pm, a race over 1400m.
Peter Moody and Jamie Kah combine in the first and that duo kick off the first of four best bets on the program.
Brendan Bunworth is back with his preview and free racing tips for the Sandown meeting.
Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday January 11th
Race 1
(4) Nunthorpe is up in class here but did win well at Cranbourne on debut and is in a leading stable. He started odds on at his first race and looked good when winning by a neck. Before that was a winning jumpout at Pakenham. The one to beat again.
(3) Pyrois has a good barrier in two and is fit now after three runs this prep. The Written Tycoon colt does get back but does have a strong finish on him and may make his run at the same time as the favourite.
(5) Thesecondatportsea can be slow out of the barriers but has run a nice second over this distance previously.
(1) Rheinberg will likely be the second favourite and will settle on speed. He just may be a sitting duck for them with 200m to go, though.
(4) Nunthorpe WIN
$2 (4 Units)
Race 4
(2) Fire Glo Too went for home a bit too early last start under Blake Shinn i thought and the Star Witness gelding returns with the Goat, Damien Oliver on top. Both of his wins have been on the Good surface and he does get the blinkers on for the first time. He hit the lead too early last time and can make amends here.
(3) Young Hostess has won 2 from 7 second up but only one over the distance. Can place this time and may go one better next start.
(5) Max Mercury was a dominant Wangaratta winner last start (4L) and should get a good run in transit from barrier 4.
(6) Hard Squeeze has won 2 over this distance and has won at Ladbrokes Park before. Was just okay last time though when 4th.
(1) Fire Glo Too WIN
$4.20 (2 Units)
Race 7
(2) Defining should get a lovely run from the inside barrier and settle around third or fourth on the fence. She has had one start second up prior for a victory and her 3rd last time at Ballarat was full of merit in a stronger race than this. She does carry her heaviest weight yet of 61kg which is the only real concern.
(5) Field Of Praise should settle close to Defining and she also ran well last start in a stronger race when 2nd at The Valley. The Hayes team are back in form too after So Si Bon won again on the weekend against the odds.
(6) Berry Bubbly has only won one race over 950m. May lead, but may get captured late even with the 2kg with Carleen Hefel on board.
(7) Colorado Cruz was backed into $1.80 last start and saluted for punters at Colac. Unlike some of her other rivals in this race, that was in an easier event than this.
(2) Defining WIN
$3.50 (1 Unit)
Race 8
*SCRATCHED* (12) Keitel is resuming and has won first up before. On debut at Pakenham, he got back a bit and made a sustaining run to win easily and he may try those tactics again on the big open track. If there is pace on, even better.
(5) Kalashani Lad likes this track and did storm home for 2nd at The Valley last start. Another who may try and make a sustained run from the 400m mark.
(2) The Art of Flying will be up on pace and with a few back markers in this race could get some cheap splits and has been in the money 6 of 7 starts.
(3) Elite Icon was 5th behind Sigh last start who went down by a nose last week. Good form lines around this horse. Has won 2 from 5 on the Good and can surprise.
