Ladbrokes Park Lakeside circuit will conduct an eight-race meeting on Wednesday with gallopers starting at 1pm (AEST). The maidens get us underway as per the norm as the horses will likely be running on a Soft 5 track on the day.

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, August 23rd 2023
Race 3: Ladbrokes Odds Surge Handicap - 2:10pm (AEST)
(8) Poison Chalice won well for punters when starting fav at Geelong last start and he can win for punters again here again. He is the likely favourite with Declan Bates steering again from barrier 1. He rises 100m in distance which shouldn’t be a concern after he did run on pretty well from midfield last time.
(1) Sir Rockford is another who ran on quite well last time for 4th and he will appreciate a Soft track again. He is going back 600m in distance which is interesting.
(5) Colombe D’or won well at Werribee and then won a jumpout a fortnight ago. Can continue to improve.
(6) From Pantherland has won 3 of 10 races when running on Soft tracks.
(8) Poison Chalice - WIN
$2.60 (2 Units)
Race 4: Royal Meeting Early 2yo Speed - 2:45pm (AEST)
(4) Versilla has a good record when first up and the mare does go well over this distance having won and placed twice. Before her freshen up she was 6th at Caulfield behind Hell Hound in what was a pretty good effort. She was 4th in a jumpout in which Va Via ran 3rd in and since then Va Via has won (Caulfield). Her Soft form is fair but she probably doesn’t want any rain in the lead up.
(5) Electric Impulse has drawn wide in 10 and probably wants a little rain as best form is on the Heavy. Is talented though and is 1 from 1 over the distance.
(8) London Point was 2nd (beaten a head) at Ballarat last month and has been freshened for this. Drops 4kg.
(9) Sirius Statement likes the distance and can run on well in her races. Michael Dee rides for the 2nd time.
(4) Versilla - Win
$3.60 (2 Units)
Race 7: Ladbrokes Yard Comments Handicap - 4:30pm (AEST)
(9) Bews should be able to sit behind the leader here like he did when winning here on August 6. Although Blake Shinn isn’t on his time, the Price & Kent Jr team losing nothing in gaining the services of another top jockey in Mark Zahra. It won’t concern Bews if the track turns to Soft but the only worrying sign is that he was poor when 2nd up last campaign. Remains with 59kg.
(7) Watadeel is resuming here and is the danger. He has won when 1st up previously but his jumpout form has been poor.
(5) Just Jake is experienced and does like this distance. One that can place at big odds.
(4) Thaler resumes from a 40-week spell. Has won over this distance before and could show up into the placings.
(9) Bews - Win
$2 (3 Units)
Race 8: Stow Storage Solutions Handicap - 5:05pm (AEST)
(2) Boldhino is a horse that I have backed a few times before, and in higher grade too. He was rested for a little bit before winning a trial last week and should be ready to show best again, especially in midweek grade. The wide draw is a small concern (13) but he does get a claim at the weights which will help. Probably wants a Good track too.
(4) The Hass had a tough run without luck at Flemington when 9th last start and could improve here. Will likely get back and is another who needs it Dry.
(6) Flycatcher has Ollie on again after winning at Bendigo. He has drawn even wider than the fav (15) and may get stuck out there as he does usually settle in the midfield.
(8) Kimberley Pearl likes Good tracks and will be running on very late. Has had 2 runs from a spell and is fitter.
(2) Boldhino - Win
$4.80 (2 Units)
