On what is expected to be fine conditions in Melbourne, midweek racing will take place on Sandown’s Lakeside surface at Ladbrokes Park.
On the twilight program, race one gets underway at 3:40pm, with the last of eight race races starting at 7:30pm.
The track will be Good 4, and Brendan Bunworth brings you his best racing tips for the day below!
Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday 21st December
Race 1
(1) Choqant has had three starts for two seconds now and he is ready to win before heading out for a likely spell. On debut he was second at Cranbourne before running a very good second when starting a $2.20 favourite at Pakenham (Synthetic). Ethan Brown had him up running second for the entire race and it would look like he would salute with 50m to go but just went down by a head. Last start at Geelong he was an even money favourite but was just okay without having much luck (5th), but I am forgiving that run and the Kent stable must be happy with him still if they have nominated again.
(5) Roc De Russian we had in our best bets a few weeks ago for a Place bet at big odds and he came 4th but beaten less than 2L. He will settle on pace and should run a placing for supporters this time. Blake Shinn hops on.
(9) Cortes has placed in both starts and has a leading jockey in Craig Williams on this time. Barrier 10 is a negative though.
(10) Go Woody is on debut for the Yargi stable and will be one to follow.
(1) Choqant WIN
$6 (1 Unit)
Race 3
(6) Ultimate Kiss was pretty good behind two classy types last start in Obfuscation and Riverplate. He is very fit now and gains the services of Blake Shinn. He should be up there early and can handle dry tracks and this race looks easier than his last assignment. He is up to the mile for the first time which we will have to wait and see if he can handle.
(1) Rich Divinity is down on best form but from barrier two he should get a nice trail into the race. His races are usually spaced out but the last time he had a relatively quick back up, he won.
(3) Harbourmaster has a good second up record but this race is harder than his latest Mount Gambier 2nd.
(5) Mere Fancy comes into this race after a 4th at The Valley, a race which looks harder than this. So, a finish worse than fourth again will be disappointing. Should run top 4.
(6) Ultimate Kiss WIN
$4.50 (2 Units)
Race 4
(6) Fire Glo Too for Team Hayes and Blake Shinn are trying to rectify a plain last start effort where this horse was backed to win but ran 5th. Before that effort though he was beaten a head twice in succession but he is 100 percent ready now and I get the feeling the stable wants a win while the iron is hot. He meets the favourite in this race 1.5kg the better and has won twice on Good tracks before.
(10) Miletus was a beaten favourite last start but gets the blinkers on for this race. It’s been a while since a win, but can place.
(4) Who’s Your Papy will start favourite after winning at Warrnambool by a nose last start. He has won 3 from 11 starts on the Good and he should get a good run settling in about third position.
(3) Tycoon Bec was strong to the line when winning at Morphettville last start and will settle on in a similar spot to the favourite. First start at Lakeside.
(6) Fire Glo Too WIN
$4.80 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(15) Israelite Bay has drawn well in two and did put in a good trial three weeks ago when worked to the line nicely. It seems the key to this horse is keeping it fresh and she resumes again here after a seven-month spell. Forget her last Flemington run when she had enough that day but go on her convincing maiden win when starting very short odds.
(13) Birdie’s Galore goes into this race fresh after being trapped wide at her latest start when 9th. She has won on the Good and is a consistent performer.
(1) D’jumbuck is first up and is carrying a big weight but is better than most of these. The key is here is the surface which he runs well on.
(2) Oriental Legend has won first up before and was competitive against Cardinal Gem (5th) last time.
(15) Israelite Bay WIN
$13 (1 Unit)
